Oh, Phil, I see you just reached the same conclusion I did about the Benelyn. So, sorry to go on and on about it. You're sure there's no DM in there along with the G? I don't blame you for wanting to quit something that isn't working, and I don't think you have an "I don't care" attitude.

Yes, guaifenesin is definitely an expectorant, but may have a suppressant with it which you wouldn't want. You are a smart guy and I'm assuming you got the kind with only the expectorant in it. I'm very sorry it isn't working and am glad to hear you will see a doc soon, who maybe can help you sort things out and might push for you to try to see you lung doc sooner.

No worries Anne. All is good.
The Benelyn is definitely an expectorant. I double checked with my pharmacist and she knows my condition well.
Once I see the labs next week then I can make a decision of what to do. If the WCC is below 10 then it is not an infection worth treating. The ESR and CRP could be slightly elevated, but I'm sure they are not high. I will also send an e-mail to my infectious disease doc to see if I can see him anytime soon to see what his opinion is of all this.

Good that you are being proactive. I will say no more about expectorants and suppressants. I think your condition is way more difficult to threat than anything most of us have, including mucus in our lungs or airways.

You can talk about what ever you like Anne. I always love reading your posts. You are very well spoken and so calm about things. You have a good command of the language.
Yes, I know from research and talking to other top docs in the US and Europe that I am in top 1% of the top 1% of extremely severe cases.

Compared to you, my breathing issues are minor. I get short of breath when I over exert myself. Had to give up fitness swimming because my chest feels like it's closing up. I had several cavitations at disease onset and some scarring with pneumonia a couple of years ago. My lungs have been clear since recovery from pneumonia.

What do you mean by cavitations Pete? Do you mean cavitating nodules like I have? What caused these cavitations?
Phil Berggren, dx 2003
I had a bulls eye shaped lesion in my right upper lobe and several others elsewhere. The docs called them cavitations which I took to mean cavities where the alveoli had been damaged/destroyed. Don't know what caused them other than they're a part of the "package".

That's very interesting Pete. Thanks for sharing.
