Hey guys, it’s Beckie, Jack’s daughter with an update on how he is doing. Sorry for not updating you sooner but life has been pretty hectic!
After the doc’s swinging one way and then the other with the cancer diagnosis, they have finally, after a bronchoscopy, decided that dad does not have cancer after all and that his problems are actually being caused by a big infection trapped in a Wegener’s cavity in his lungs. Add to that a fungal infection too. These are both tricky conditions to treat, he is still on IV drugs and is now showing some response to the medication, although his physical state is weak and he is having trouble stabilising his breathing.
Since the bronchoscopy dad has had a sore throat and is now having troubling swallowing his meds so tomorrow he is going to have a feeding tube fitted, this should also have the added benefit of getting a bit more nourishment into him, hopefully helping him to get a bit stronger.
The plan then is that dad will spend a couple of weeks in a nearby hospice for a bit of rehabilitation to try and build up some strength before coming home. He is on the waiting list for a bed. Dad would also be able to have more IV antibiotics there too rather than spend yet more time in hospital. He will be sure to be back on line posting to you when he is at home sitting in his comfy chair, filling you in with all the detail I have missed out.
