    Default Feeling shaky

    Hi everyone

Friday my doctor started my prednisone taper from 60 down to 40.

I've been feeling very shaky. It's not visible, I just feel it. As if my blood sugar was too low, but it's normal. Also my blood presume has been normal again.

Have any of you felt shaky when tapering? I've read that tapering prednisone is awful... Maybe I'm starting to understand.

Hi Gab - glad to learn your docs are starting to taper the Prednisone. I went a bit slower than a 20 mg decrease but had been on prednisone for a while. My daughter did notice my hands were shaky but this did pass.

Gab, that's a 1/3 drop in dosage...probably too much this early with the amount you're taking. You'll find, with pred, that the further you reduce, the more conscious one must be of the % of pred dropped moreso than the actual amount, altho it will be low soon. Hang in there, these are the trying times...you'll get there.

    My taper was 60, 40, 20, 10, 7.5, 5, 2, 1, 0.

I felt very "shaky" when I was on the higher doses. This subsided quite a bit after I got below 20. I have to think that everybody's response and tolerance to medications is a bit different. My perception was that the tremulous feeling was due to the pred itself, and not caused by lowering the dose. Thankfully, I had no ill effects from the taper and I was very glad to get off the higher doses.

Thank you middlesista, Don and Tom. It's been six weeks since my diagnosis and the reality of it is sinking in - in a new way.

It helps so much to have this forum to come to with my questions. And to know you all are in a similar boat as me.
Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I am in the middle of my Taper of prednisone as well started at 60 then 2 weeks between each taper 40 now at 30 then 25 20 17.5 15 12.5 10 7.5 5.0 2.5 then off again. I have noticed my hands shaking or trembling but thought it was because of the dose I was taking

Best of luck with the taper once it's complete you will be happy. I was off prednisone completely from 4/15 until August this year when I had a flare

Blu4runner - I think you might be right about it possibly being the med instead of the fact of its being tapered. The shakiness is much worse in the morning and early afternoon. I think more pred is in my system at that time.

My hands would visibly shake when on the higher doses, and my handwriting was very shaky. It's all pretty normal, I think. It will go away ...just be patient. 😕
