Louie the ginger cat sez: "Dogs, dogs, dogs! All they talk about is stinkin' dogs!" I tell him, "Chew a few catnip pellets, Louie. You'll boil your blood if you don't chill."

I love those stinkin dogs Cats are nice too.
(Me, too, but don't tell Louie!)
Louie and I had one bad moment. Blood was drawn, and I bopped a little head before I even considered the consequences. The little head was OK (Not so with the Big Head, which was bleeding!). Tetanus shot up to date, wound cleaned out and antibiotic applied, Big Head addressed the sorryness he felt for bopping the little head, but the little head had to be coaxed into believing. A peace offering (shaved turkey- little head's favorite!) was made and accepted. A calming petdown and some soft noises coming out of Big Head's mouth did the job.
This is not a Christmas story, but one of restoring a kitty's self-confidence without giving up the Alpha Cat role. Big Head and little head live in mutual understanding and peace. There has been no acting out. In fact, little head now sleeps in Big Head's bed when he feels a deep snoze coming on instead of the guest bed. I guess this is progress.
I don't believe in hitting pets, but getting scratched in the face because the cat didn't want to be held just then I don't tolerate or believe in either. It was necessary to establish one important ground rule if I were to live around a cat as a person with a compromised immune system! If the method wasn't right, then the result was. Sometimes a picture says it all......
Yes, I buy into that! Louie, when I took him for his shots and first check-up after I rescued him from the pound, was the only cat in the waiting room with four other patients, all dogs. He didn't react to them and they didn't react to him. He wouldn't mind having a little dog friend, though I live in a retirement community where only good dogs (non-barkers) are tolerated, and cats tend to be the pet of choice since they are relatively quiet!
Here's a video of excellent dog~cat relations.:

I love all the doggie/cat posts/pictures! What are you eating Doug?
Terri-- that's a SWEET pic of your babies! That's how my dogs are with each other. Always curled up together, snuggling. Lotus is short-haired and curls up into Patch's fluffy belly. He's like a pillow--everything about him is soft.
