drz, MRIs use an enormous magnet so if you have any metal in your body it will be pulled out.
Of course, first you have to get the MRI machine into the hospital. (My jaw literally dropped open watching this)
CT scans are not good though if you have kidney damage. The dye is hard on them but I heard they have a newer option that is not so dangerous.
They told me the MRI would heat up any metal inside of me which could cause damage just like putting metal into a microwave oven. I have had metal inserted during two previous operations but it disolved over time so MRIs have not been a problem for me.

Fortunately they don't use contrast dye for all CT scans. Lung CTs are fine without it, unless they're suspecting blood clots.
Just got back from my doc appt.
The CT of bladder did not show anything abnormal. So my doc said that if the blood in urine continues then he will ask the urologist to do another scope just to make sure. The CT did reveal a new nodule in the lung though. But he was comparing to the CT in May of 2010 instead of Dec. 2010. So it does not surprise me that there is a nodule or 2 still there.
I am off all antibiotics now.
I see my doc again on Sept. 7.
He is going to arrange for me to have the meningococcal vaccine some time next week.
He also told me that he diagnosed a 74 year old man with Wegs last week. Kidney, lungs, and sinuses involved.

Congratulations, Phil, to get off the antibiotics. It will get better, it may just take one step at a time. Don't give up hope.
