PHil,
Wishing you well and quick!
Phil, I hope you get better soon!!! After I had my first bronch, I ended up in the ICU. I came home after the bronch and couldn't breathe very well at all. I called the doctor and they said get to your nearest ER ASAP. I think it was just a fluke complication from a bronch. I didn't have a collapsed lung but I think there was fluid?
I saw my Wegs doc today and not good news.
He got the Bronchoscopy report back, 34 pages long. He talked to the lung doc and the oncologist as well on the phone for a few hours.
To make a long story short there was very little evidence of the Mycobacterium Abscessus or any other bacteria or fungus, but there were some abnormal cell growths that can not be fully explained at this time and may never be fully explained. Cancer was mentioned but the docs agree this is a very low likelyhood. They all agreed that it looks more like active Wegs in the lungs more than anything else at the moment. I obviously still have the M. Abscessus and will have to be on antibiotics at least until September for that and maybe even longer. But the docs felt that if the Wegs is not treated agressively right now it will cause too much irreversable damage to the lungs and will give the M. Abscessus a better hold and make it easier for me to get other bacterial and fungal infections in my lungs.
So my doc put me back on 125mg of ctx, 60 of pred, 200mg 2xd of the Vfend just to play it safe because he said the ctx makes it easy for the the Aspergillus to poplulate in lungs even without a history of Aspergillus. I only had one sputum sample come back with Aspergillus in it back in October. I am back on the Bactrim as well and an acid blocker called Omeprazole. I have never been on Omeprazole before, but it was 50 bucks tonight. My pharmacist is going to see if she can get it covered or talk to my doc about it.
I will now have blood work twice a week along with weekly sputum samples to keep a close eye on things.
I will also have to stay home most of the time and when I do go out my doc said I should wear a mask and to avoid crowds if possible.
Sorry to hear the problems you are having.
Hey Phil - only 34 pages? You're "deeper" than that!
Take the meds, keep the faith, get better.
