    Default Deteriorating vision ?

    Hi.
Lately I don't see well. My eye dr. found that my myopia (shortsightedness) progressed in a very short time: in August I saw well with my glasses. Now the numbers jumped in one eye from 6 to 8 and in the other from 6 to 7. The cataract (a gift from my pred) is still not big enough to explain such a big change in such a short time.
For months wg is smoldering, now with eyes involved. Can it be wg related ?
I also suffer from diarrhea for months and can't eat veggies and fruits. I wonder if bad nutrition can damage the eye sight ? I will see a specialist for nutrition in few weeks so I will ask about it too.
Thank you for being here ♡♡♡

Are the numbers you are referring to your glasses prescription or something else? Are you being checked for glaucoma? Do you have "floaters"?

i'm guessing also that you may be approaching the age at which bifocals may be needed.

Thanks Pete. I already have 2 glasses. One for reading and the other for all the rest. The numbers are for the glasses I wear all the time (not the one for reading). I have floaters only once a month or so, and even less. Usually after too much light.
My eye dr. Checked me well including pupils enlargement so I guess that if I had glaucoma she would know it ? She didn't know how to explain the sudden big change.

Myopia is generally progressive with age. Cataract surgery does mostly cure it as they give you new lenses in the surgery. After surgery I can get by without glasses for most things for first time in over six decades. I still need them for reading and a mild correction does make things clearer for long distance viewing. My correction got very high like in the 11 or 12 range before cataract surgery.

I see an ocular inflammation specialist at the recommendation of my rheumatologist. What I thought was ever changing vision issues, he explained is the inflammation in and around my eyes exerting slight pressure that can affect my vision. I had several pair of glasses that I felt like I could never adjust to. Once he explained this and I got on the right combo of meds, I didn't need glasses at all. That wouldn't be the case with everyone as I had 20/20 vision before GPA. Maybe your smoldering disease is causing pressure more than worsening myopia or cataracts? Just a thought. I hope it gets better soon. Changing vision from day to day was a super annoying symptom for me!

    hi Alysia!
I think I recall that you may have increased pred lately? If so that could affect the fluid in your eyes and in turn affect your eyesite. Did you increase pred lately?
I hope and pray it returns to normal vision soon!

    Alysia,
I had to have cataract surgery about two years after being on steriods. I was having trouble even seeing the Tv. I just want to warn you that just having any eye surgeon do it is not good. The doc that did mine messed it up, because I should have waited until I was on a lower dose of steriods. I went to a specialist after that and found out that the lens had never sealed correctly, because the tissue around the lens was to mushey from the steriods. I will have to have it redone in the future. I do think that it is the Wegs and the steriods that is causing a lot of bad vision problems, my vision keeps getting worse. I wish you all the best to getting better vision.

Hi Alysia - my vision issues are r/t GPA affect g my optic nerve. MRI made the diagnosis along with blood tests. Residual damage still affects vision. Saw a neuro-optholmologist. The prednisone affected my eye pressure also

sorry about your bowel issues - have they ruled out GI causes like irritable bowel? I know some folks are prescribed Imodium once other causes are ruled out.

    I'm with you Alysia
Up until last year I have never had glasses.
Within the last 10 months I have had 3 pairs of reading glasses, and even now, I feel that I need a stronger pair.
Maybe people are just making text smaller and blurrier, for our benefit.

Since I can't eat any fruit or many vegetables, or take vitamins, then maybe it is because we aren't getting enough

Thank you Karen. This is the most accurate description for me. The vision is changing from hour to hour, from day to day. At some hours I am less aware that I dont see well with my glasses. At other hours I feel almost blind. And some variations between. I am careful not to drive when I feel that I dont see well enough.
Buying new glasses is extremly expensive because I buy lens which are very thin, not to put too much weight on my poor nose. So not sure yet what to do.
The eye dr. Checked the eye pressure and it was ok. Actually she didnt find anything "sick". But she said that it is weired that my vision changed so fast.
