Default Best Time to take meds

I've been recently diagnosed with wegener's and have been working with various doctors and one a bunch of meds. I've just seen a specialist yesterday who changed my meds completely as he didn't think my current situation was aggressive enough considering my main symptoms have been kidney related. So he has me
on 60 mg of prednisone (which I've been on for a month), 100 mg of cyclophosphamide (for 6 weeks until I can start rituxumb), vitamin d supplements, calcium supplments, septra antibiotic 3 times a week and 100mg of procytox.

I start art all this tomorrow, prior to this I was just on the prednisone and some Imuran. Basically I'm just wondering when the best time to take all of these would be because I assume I don't just take them all at the same time in the morning and I haven't really been given any specific instructions other than wether or not to take them with food. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Im also concerned about starting the cyclophosphamide and what kind of side effects to expect!

Hi Mariethree...you should receive a proscribed regimen for the drugs - if not, ask before applying! Generally speaking, as long as you are consistent in time & amounts, the drugs would lose no more than 10% of effectiveness (lots of 'what ifs') according my internist. Also, staying with a protocol & having patience, lots of it! Don't know much about cyclo...someone will tune in soon on that. Best to you.

Welcome to the best place for info from a great bunch of " sickies " !!! The MOST important thing is that you have a dr that is a specialist in wg a lot of them have never even heard of it. I don't really know the drug regiment for kidney involvement since mine is mostly my lungs. However when I was first dxed I was given prednisone and ctx ( cytoxin ) The one thing about ctx is that it can cause cancer (bladder ) so drink plenty of fluids and go when necessary ! I always take my drugs in the morning ...the pred with food.I don't know about all the drugs you are on but if the dr didn't tell you the times (which was stupid ) then ask the pharmacist, they usually know more anyway. Like Don said there will be a lot more people that will be able to give you better info. Keep us posted

The best is to take pred in the morning to avoid side effects of sleeping disturbance.

I took CTX for kidney damage and took most meds in morning. Drink lots of water and go to the toilet every two hours they told me. Take pred in AM too to help you sleep at night. Monitor your blood glucose levels. The pharmacist can give you advice too about when to take meds. i usually took antibiotics in evening.

My main involvement was my kidneys and I took cyclophosphamide (cytoxin) and prednisone. The cytoxin made me feel a bit loopy at first, so this was taken in the am so I could sleep at night. My body learned to adjust after awhile. Prednisone has always been in the am with yogurt to mask the terrible taste. Other drugs that I take are generally prescribed as to how to take them. My main problem now is, after 8 years into this journey, I have accumulated a team of 5 doctors. Two of them are new to me and their main direction is to change my meds without major conversation with the other three. One is the rheumatologist and his changes disregard the effect on the lungs and kidney. My goal is to be my own best advocate and be strong in dealing with the docs.
