Default Wouldn't this be great for research funding on AI diseases?

Yesterday was a good day in the battle to Stop Diabetes. Of course type one diabetes is considered an Auto Immune disorder so maybe we will get some benefit too.
Congress and the President agreed last night on a budget for next year that includes big increases to diabetes funding.
Thank you to all of the Diabetes Advocates who helped make diabetes a priority by emailing, calling and visiting their legislators. Lawmakers heard loud and clear: diabetes research and prevention programs matter!
Because of the efforts of Diabetes Advocates across the country:

    • The main NIH institution for diabetes research will get over $1.8 billion in funding—an increase of over $68 million compared to FY2015. This will allow the institute to expand promising research that moves us closer toward a cure for diabetes.

    • The CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation (DDT) will receive over $170 million—an increase of $30 million. This agency’s important mission is to reduce the preventable burden of diabetes, and their work makes a difference every day in the lives of people living with the disease.

    • And the National Diabetes Prevention Program’s budget has been doubled from last year to $20 million providing hope for all Americans who are at risk.

We couldn’t have done this without you and we still have more to do. Please help us continue our success by telling your friends and family to join us at www.diabetes.org/advocate.

I got a similar message about success in funding for the USA Peace Corps since the funding was highest in recent years.

I also got this one today from the Vasculitis Foundation. True it is very small compared to funding for cancer or heart disease but they are doing what they can with the resources they have available. It is nice to see what they could do this year.

As the year comes to an end, we reflect on how the Vasculitis Foundation has achieved its mission to support and empower our community. With your generous financial support, we have funded vasculitis research studies and a training fellowship, provided critical patient education, and raised awareness within the patient and medical communities and general public.
    Fund Vasculitis Research

The Vasculitis Foundation selected five new studies for funding of $300,000, bringing to a total 14 VF-funded studies underway in Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, England, Italy, and the United States. Learn more about the VF Research Program and the exciting research we are funding. We also supported Dr. Rennie Rhee's second year of her vasculitis fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.

    Provide Support and Education

The Vasculitis Foundation held its international symposium with more than 225 patients, family members, physicians, and researchers attending.

The Road Map to Wellness Webinars attracted over 200+ participants from around the world. Collectively, the archived webinars have been viewed by more than 1,400 people.

The Vasculitis Foundation hosted two regional patient/family conferences as well as numerous chapter and support group meetings.

The VF staff assisted more than 1,500 patients through emails and the 800-phone hotline.

The new and improved VF website, launched in August, has assisted hundreds of patients in finding vasculitis specialists and clinics throughout the world with an interactive map.
