Talking NEW MEMBERS FROM SWFL (South West Florida) USA

    Hello WG Members:

We are new to this website (June 2015). We ran across it when we were searching for support groups in SWFL (none available ). We were feeling the need to talk to others that understood us. We also feel the need to see new doctors that specialize in WG.

My husband was diagnosed with WG in August 2014 . We will share his story under Weggie's Stories once we finish writing it.

We post what we both agree to post. That's why you will see us write "we." The way that we see it is, "We are in this (WG condition) together."

We thank you all for this website .

    Sincerely,
    The Power Couple

Welcome "Power Couple". It's great that your husband has a supportive wife that he can use to help him battle this condition! I am also luck with an understanding wife and close family.

Looking forward to reading "your story".

May we ask which doctors you go to?

I am a Weggie and live in South Florida. I was recommended by Yale University, when I went there for advice, Dr. Eileen Tozman rheumatologist at University of Miami. She is a brilliant doctor and remarkable human being. Very difficult to get an appt., but worth all the effort you can muster. She got me on Rituxan, and follows up on you like a hound. She will spend time with you, calm your fears, and be your
ally.I hope you will benefit and make great progress with her.

I'm glad you are getting these responses from others in SWFL. I am at the extreme diagonal other end of the US in Washington state, so can't help much with docs for you. But I'm a believer that there are good docs, capable of treating WG competently, in a number of places, who may not be as well known as those at the more well-known vasculitis clinics. It would be great if you could find one that you didn't have to travel as far to see. And some of the top specialists are available for your doc to consult with for free at this link: VF Medical Consultants . And here is a new site I'm sharing on the forum for the first time, which lists docs by state, as recommended by patients: Vasculitis Journey of Hope - United States . Those are the links for doctors, but both sites are worth checking out thoroughly.

The "expert facilities" train lots of residents each year and will generally have the name of some of their graduates who are closer to you for followup care.
