    Default Thinning skin ????

I was wondering if anyone else has this same problem. For the last few weeks, in particular, it seems like if I just slightly bump myself on something, its like a small chunk of skin will be cut and bleed and then I have like a line of blood underneath my skin. I don't know if being on pred. so long is thinning my skin so bad. But I'm thinking bubble wrap time ! Just wondering if its just me or is this a common problem ..Thx

My skin is also thinning, very easy to take a chunk out and lots of bruises with the smallest knock. I blame it on the pred.

Yeah, I have that two, but mine is compounded by aging (something that doesn't apply to you yet).

Well I called and asked my kidney dr that is very up on wg and he said to take more Vit.C (eat more fruit and veggies ), have my Thyroid checked and I might have to try to get off pred. Yea, the first 2 will be easy but we all know about the pred thing. I have a call into Cleveland Clinic to ask my rheumy,so I will let you know what I hear. I am glad ( and sorry for the rest ) that it is not just me.

    Hi Debra,

When I use MyChart's e-mail facility, it says their standard is to address non-urgent issues within 3 business days. Might be the same with non-emergency phone calls.

I've experienced the same problem,in fact I've got a large scab on my shin at the moment from a slight knock from about 4 weeks ago.i was on pred for 7 years before finally getting of it at the end of May.Pred - it's the gift that keeps on giving.

    Debra,
Right now my arms are a mess, clear to the elbows. I had a nurse in some office, not wegs tell me that is due to the preds. I have noticed that when I have to increase preds, my skin gets thinner and every bump gives me a bleed under the torn skin. I hope you get an answer from CC soon and let us know. Best wishes to you!

Hi Debra, sorry to hear you are having issues right now. Its my understanding that pred will thin the skin and of course instigate these skin ruptures etc. Having been on pred for the past 6 years I was very interested about your advice about bumping up the Vit C. I have to confess to getting a natural "high" when eating good oranges, there I've fessed up!!
What I have found is that despite working most of my life outdoors, I am now very susceptible to the sun and have to cover up, even a sun hat! which I also lay at the door of Mr Steroid.
Hope you get a call back soon and some reassurance.
