Default Brown stains between bottom 6 front teeth

I noticed recently some dark brown stains between my 6 front bottom teeth. Can't see the discolouration elsewhere but not so easy to see behind all the teeth. I did a bit of research to see if this can be related to the Wegener's but couldn't find anything specific. I have only noticed these stains in the last few weeks. Or if it can be related to any of the meds. Would have to be MTX or Pred as I am not on anything else that's new. Oh folic acid and vitamin D. Since last Tuesday Bactrim DS but the staining occurred before I started on that one.

I tried flossing, brushing with a whitening toothpaste, using a little plastic piksters but nothing seems to shift the stains. Guess I need to see the dentist. Will have to find one that understand Wegener's

I did read that brown stains in-between teeth can be bacterial in origin and if that is the case they will keep coming back after the Dentist has removed them.

Has anyone else suffered with this? Or is it totally unrelated? My gums don't look inflamed or discoloured.

Some meds can cause stains. My last mouth rinse to treat mouth sores from my dentist even had that on the warning label.

Thanks drz. I have checked out all the meds I have been taking and can't find anything specific that could be causing it. Anyway I made an appointment with the dentist. I am long overdue for a checkup anyway so will see what he thinks it is. Luckily the dental clinic I go to say they specialise in people with complex medical conditions and they are attached to a hospital here. So I think I will be in good hands and maybe even lucky enough for them to have heard of Wegener's Last time I saw them was just over 2 years ago and at that stage I had not been diagnosed with Wegener's as yet. But they were aware of my chronic immune system issues and refused doing dental implants for me at the time. So I know they are careful.

I have the same thing Inge.

Brown stained teeth right on the gum line of my front (6) bottom teeth.

You are correct, no toothpaste, mouthwash or floss seems to budge it.

I don't think that it is a WG thing but am pretty sure it is a medication thing

is the staining on the gumline between the teeth or just between teeth?

Hi Deborah. It's between the teeth all the way up. Looks like the sides of the teeth are stained but the stain is visible from the front too I have started brushing with a baking soda paste. So far not really looking any better.

Michelle I tend to agree it's something I am taking however research hasn't helped me find it yet.

I don't drink coffee so it can't be that. Nothing else that's dark that I eat or drink. And it's all very recent.

Only meds I am on is Pred, MTX, Bactrim (but the staining started before I was put onto Bactrim), Vitamin D, Folic Acid, Insulin (injected), Somac (been taking it for several years), occasional Valium and Buscopan (but have been using those for years as well). And that's about it.

Hm ... I was using the GelClair mouthwash for the tongue ulcer. I may check if that could have some effect on the teeth as I swished my mouth with it for at least 3 weeks.

OK checked out the Gelclair and there are no known side effects. Can't find anything on staining of teeth but I guess I could look under EACH ingredient. Quite a long list though.

For me it doesn't seem to be on the teeth but on the gum between each tooth

The mouth wash I had that warned about risk of stains was PerioRx with ingredient Chlorhexidine Gluconate. This ingredient might be in other mouth washes too sold under different name.

Drz I noticed that when doing my research. However I haven't been using a mouthwash. Just brush my teeth with Sensodyne (due to having sensitive teeth) and floss them.

I think the baking soda is slowly working on the stains. They seem less distinct than at first. But maybe I am just imagining it. Will keep it up for now and see what happens
