I think study is a euphemism for what I'm not sure, maybe "need time to formulate a good excuse why I can't take you on as a new patient." I did think the same thing as you when I read it though. Study what? Good luck finding a new endo.

Thanks Cindy. It's all a bit tragic really. Out of all the Specialists who came to see me nearly every day when I was in hospital for 5 weeks the Endo was the most caring and made sure I was looked after. He organised a private room for me after 3 weeks in a cubbyhole that gave me claustrophobia. All the private rooms had been taken up by patients with gastro who were being isolated then when I asked I was told I had to go onto a waiting list. Anyway I had a near nervous breakdown. I was literally abel to touch the patient who sat in the next cubicle on a chair all day as they had the chair bulging into my space and she would sit there use the pan etc. She was also extremely noise all night. Bed up and down. Lights on and off. TV blaring on and off. I had acquired ear plugs and eye mask then she was constantly lying on the bell and they nurses would take 3 visits before they discovered the reason she kept calling them lol. Anyway I was totally warn out after 3 weeks of living in this awful environment. They had converted what was little more than a private room into a 4 bed ward. Toilet situation was drastic as well and I don't even want to describe it.
So the Endo came to visit and found me in tears after I was told I would have to go onto a waiting list. He said "how long have you been in this bed?" I said 3 weeks and he said "ridiculous" marched out and next day I had my own room. It felt like I had been moved into a private resort LOL

Anyway he helped me out quite a few times and so I am rather sad he has had such massive family issues he can't cope with more appointments Anyway hopefully the other 2 I now have to check with will have time

That's a runaround you don't need right now... I can't believe the original doc would tell you you to call if you ever needed him and then turn you away. Unfortunate and not very nice, bit who knows what he has going on. I hope you find someone good, soon.

What do your 'hypos' feel like? Wondering if that could be the cause of my wobbly/dizzy spells as I haven't felt like eating in the afternoons when I would normally snack between meals... But then I'm suddenly woozy and spacey and need to sit or preferably lie down. This happened today and although I didn't feel at all hungry I ate anyways, and felt better after a while... Hmmm.

Hi Lisa. I am not upset at all with my original Endo. I am sure he is under extreme pressure or he would have made it possible to see him earlier. It's the others I rang that put me off but luckily today first person I contacted was available and I have an appointment for 1st July

As to hypos. They make you a) break out into a sweat b) feel shaking like a leaf c) want to run to the fridge and eat. Luckily by then I have checked my sugar and confirmed so I haven't gone beyond that stage

Lisa are you checking your blood glucose levels? Have you been tested for diabetes? I had years of hypoglycaemia without being diabetic. They do call it pre-diabetes. May be worth asking for a fasting glucose tolerance test next time you go to your doctor.

If you do get the shakes and feel as if a hypo is coming on then quickly eat something sweet like jelly beans or drink some apple juice and have some cheese or protein or a banana so that you have some instant glucose and some slow release to see you through to your next meal.

I haven't been tested since I was pregnant with my son who is soon turning seven. So it's probably time. I'll look back trough my labs in case they've tested more recently an I haven't paid attention. Thanks for your advice. That's what I usually do, grab something sweet right away ten something more substantial. Because I can't have dairy and cheese used to be my go-to quick protein snack I'm still working in it. I usually carry nuts and seeds for those times. And Kind bars which are made of fruit, nuts and seeds.

are you on Pred Lisa? For me it's called steroid endured diabetes. However I was considered borderline on and off for years. I was controlling it with diet but the pred put me right over the line and I was just reading if you have been on higher dose pred for more than 4 months it may not be reversible

I'm on 10 mg of prednisone... But all drugs affect me in lower doses than the average person so it's possible that this is a factor. I've decided to just stop guessing and get the docs to get to the bottom of it. I can't sleep every day away. Or I guess I could but I'd need a full time nanny. Which would cost my entire CPP cheque plus some.

Inge, I totally thought of you when I read this on FB: Some trained dogs seem to detect low blood sugar levels. According to a 2000 article in the British Medical Journal, more than one-third of dogs living with diabetic people have been reported to display behavioral changes when their owners' blood sugar drops, sometimes even before patients themselves were aware of it. In two case studies cited by the paper, the dogs not only detected their owners' falling glucose levels, they even nudged their owners into eating.

It's unclear how the dogs did it, but it's possible that they detected minute muscle tremors, or changes in the owners' scents, according to the study.

And they might be able to learn the skill. Reportedly, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was recently taught to recognize low blood sugar by the Pups in Prison program at the Junee Correctional Centre in Australia, where inmates helped train service dogs.

do you have a dog? Can you get one?

Sounds like something to keep in mind if I can't get on top of this. No we don't have a dog and were not intending on getting any pets right now. Another responsibility on top of what we are already trying to cope with. I don't think I could do it to my husband.

I lowered the insulin from 20 units to 16 units and that seems to have fixed the hypos. Mind you not sure if it will last as the pred is also coming down steadily. Now I have the opposite problem. After dinner the sugar goes through the roof. I will need to make sure I reduce carbs for lunch and dinner. But I am glad right now I don't need supper or snacks between breakfast and lunch So the problem now is between 7 and 11pm the sugar keeps rising. I really don't like the novamix type of insulin. I really feel I would be better off on normal insulin that I can dispense when it is needed rather than having it automatically released throughout the day. Well something to discuss with they Endo 1st of July if the problem persists.

Right now I am struggling with Pred withdrawal symptoms. Feeling very sluggish, hot and cold alternating, extreme fatigue, pain in centre of back (that's a new one), dizzy, diarrhea in general rather unwell. I found all of the symptoms listed as potential pred withdrawal/tapering symptoms so I am just putting up with it for now. Managed to stay off all pain meds. Can cope with a lot of resting.
