Greetings fellow RN - I am a Weggie and a practicing RN. It's hard to know so much and so little about a disease at the same time. Praise God that your dad does NOT have a malignancy. WG is easier to treat than lung cancer.

It is hard to find good ENTs that know about this dz. I went to ENT referred by my Rheum d/t perforated nasal septum. He poked at it with a q-tip and announced that the q-tip wouldn't go through so he was not worried. He was
rather cauvalair about it, I told him to use a smaller instrument, but apparently he decides whether a perforation is a perforation by poking a full-sized q-tip clear through. What an ass. Anyways, I am currently looking for a local ENT
that can make recommendations. I also use the sprays, but it does not cut down on the runny noses or bloody noses. I understand there are good ointments that can be used, but I need to get the name and see if script or over
    the counter.

One thing I tell my patients after nasal surgery is to not "blow" the nose. That seems less disruptive to inflamed or healing sinuses or nasal septal tissue. If he does blow his nose, do so with mouth open to decrease the pressure.
High blood pressure and putting head in downward position can also exacerbate nasal drainage. Keeping that blood pressure low is important for us. Does he check daily?

Good luck with your dad. Prayers your way -
    Deborah T.

Alysia, if it's the surgery you might be worried about...my experience was that my ENT did a wonderful job for what she could do. She did the deviated septum, which I didn't think I needed, but she was right...I could breathe so much better afterwards. But, my point is that the actual surgeries ENTs do are pretty safe and less complicated than when they went in with tools that left one's sinus area pretty torn up and bleeding. My septum was done bleeding by that night and I had no packing. Just saying ENT toys are pretty good and they don't cause the 'nose' pain they used to cause. Best to you and your nose!!! LOL!

thanks Don you are blessed with good ENT, which is not so common.... I am not going to do surgery soon, since it seems that I can breath

Well, Deborah, I'm not totally thrilled with my ENT, because he is not a great communicator, for one thing, but he's a darn sight better than the one you got, Dr.Q-tip! Mine said I had a small perforation in the bony part of the septum and was able to get a good enough biopsy sample to confirm my Wegs dx. Of course, my recently discovered saddle nose made it sort of a foregone conclusion.

The one over the counter nasal ointment I know of is Ayr, which my ENT recommended and I think someone on here mentioned recently. There may be better prescription ones, I don't know, but I think the Ayr is largely Aloe Vera and works pretty well. Its been wehilke since I used it.
