    Default Flare up??

    Hi
Just posting for some advice, to see if my symptoms ring any bells with anyone???

I gave birth 5 weeks ago, and typically, I tend to flare up post pregnancy. Once with Tracheal Stenosis, the second with severe Optic Neuritis, and then there's this time!

I know that a few weeks ago my ESR and CRP were up (i just had some aching joints), but no other symptoms. Now, I am vomiting, my hands and face are swollen, loss of appetite, weakness (probably due to dehydration??), protein in my urine (I had some sticks left over from my midwife when she monitered my protein levels during pregnancy). Also, the palm of my hands are really itchy/scratchy i can't describe it.

Does this sound like anything WG related?

Sorry for the vague symptoms. My husband has gone out for the day to play golf, and has left me with with the children under 5!! I'm not happy, i'd be at the hospital having my bloods done if I could.

You need to get this checked out quickly. Like today!
These are the sort of symptoms I was having when I went into renal failure and should you be that unlucky, the quicker you act the better.

Sorry to sound alarmist, perhaps it will turn out to be something simple, I hope it does.

Those are classic kidney problem symptoms and with Wegs the risk is kidney failure. Especially after a pregnancy, where the kidneys are even more stressed.

PLEASE GO RIGHT NOW TO THE ER.

If I could leap through this monitor I would right now. Even if you have to take the kids, they can care for them in the ER.

I have everything crossed for you Gwenllian that you're gonna be ok.

It is not good news to hear that giving birth can cause a flare up so bad - this will now also be a factor in my decision whether to have a child or not.

I didn't know if you knew that, Luce. Pregnancy is very stressful on the body. Flares during or soon after pregnancy are not uncommon. I don't say this to scare you, just to inform you. Your docs really should have explained that risk. This is why I encourage you to try for a baby only if you're really excited about doing it now. That way, the mental stress is not a big factor as well.

Thanks Sangye - I knew that obviously pregnancy was a big stress on the body and that I could probably expect a flare of some kind.

What I didn't expect was the unfortunate and very serious effects that
Gwenllian has experienced - tracheal stenosis particularly scares me.

And no, my docs did not mention that pregnancy could set me way way back in my progress of recovering from WG.

I completely agree about not going through with this if I'm not 100% happy and excited to be talking about children right now - it's no good thinking I'm sure to come around to the idea because I might not, ever...

I went to the out of hours GP tonight, and she was awful! She just sent me home, as though i was worrying about nothing.
She looked at my swollen and inflammed hands, and told me to go back to my own doctor on tuesday and that i could wsell have poor kidney function. great!! nothing to worry about there then!
    I felt like crying.
the pain in my trachea is intense too. i feel so ill, sorry for the moan i just feel really isolated and sad that the doctor was so useless. she must have spent about 3 mins with me, and didnt even know what wg was.

i have no regrets having my 3 children. the pregnancies werent easy, but it was worth it xx
