    Default Question about eyeballs

Does anyone have their vision affected?

In the last couple of weeks, the words on the pages, and on my screen are not clear. I wish I could describe this accurately. They aren't exactly blurry, but they don't look right. I went to the Optometrist this morning and my vision tested the exact same as it always does. No change at all.

She gave me a brand new pair of contacts as we figured maybe the pair I was wearing was ready to come out. I put them on and ... I come to work and things still suck.

I am a sheriff's dispatcher. I can't be seeing NOT clearly. I looked at my units and something is off. I read the forum and it's not good.

Yet ... my "vision test" hasn't changed. The fluid levels are fine, my pressure is good, she took a picture of my eyeball and it looks healthy.

I don't know what to do!

Same thing here, but no contacts. Slight blurring and perception change especially of the ground. Had eyes examined, same as they were before...no one seems to have answers for me either. Perhaps it's the pred? WG? Associated changes in body? Who knows...good luck!

    NickieNicole and Don,

You may want to see an ophthalmologist about your vision. You may have cataracts or the beginnings of macular degeneration. Optometrists may not catch these problems.

I started having vision issues about 18 months ago. I felt that my new glasses were off, but when I went back they retested my eyes and they tested fine. Earlier this year I went to an ophthalmologist and he tested and said results were the same. He suggested that because my sugar levels had been high, AIC 8.4, that that is what may be causing the symptoms. I was not not on any WG's drugs at the time. It's not really blurry, but it's almost like a focus problem. I tired eye drops in case it was dry eyes and they didn't make a difference. If you figure it out please share. I go to the eye doc again in a couple of weeks and I'll talk to her about it again.

    Hi Nikki,
maybe you need reading-glasses ? does your optometrist check your vision for close distances ?
anyway, we weggies need to check our eyes regularly, to rule out eye-involvement or to give correct treatment if we do have it. I hope you don't.

I will have to agree with Pete. Right before I found out I was having a flare up; my eyes started feeling "funny" , I experienced eye pain when rolling my eye's left to right and the whites of my eyes were red; I was diagnosed with scleritis.

For me, it just so happen I was in the middle of a flare and my blood work was showing elevated sed rate; crp so I was already scheduled for RTX treatments. The scleritis was resolved with the RTX treatments.

Since then, I started tapering off high doses of prednisone and recently noticed a little redness in the eye again. Again I was checked by my ophthalmologist at Cleveland Clinic: retinas, eye pressure, cataracts and he found that my eye pressure was elevated to like 19. The Rheumy and Ophthalmologist agreed it was a side effect of the prednisone as he saw no issues behind the eyes and the redness was a result of the high doses of prednisone. Their solution is to monitor me through the taper. He did prescribe some eye drops just in case my eye symptoms get worse or progress.

But overall, I say all of this just to emphasis, I would try to see a specialist because from what I've been told the medications we take, along with WG's can cause problems behind the eye that can lead to loss in vision, tunnel vision and other problems with the retina so try to address all eye problems right away.

I have contacts and glasses. I wear my contacts usually because I hate feeling like I am in a box. When I wear my glasses, I have no peripheral vision and it bugs me. I like the feeling of having all my vision. Things are very off. It's almost like my eyes want to cross.
I was standing out front and looked at my street sign and it was ... weird. LIke, not blurry or fuzzy but, it was like the letters weren't all in a row. Some were up and others were down, the lines weren't straight. That's what happens when I look at any letters.
I switched to reading an actual book instead of my kindle thinking maybe my eyes were tired from the backlighting but I am seeing the same thing there as well.
I go back in a week to see if the new contacts are helping (they aren't) and I need to make an appt with my opthamologist.
    This is really bothering me!

Put in a request?....hmm. You got to be firm and say: Look here, my eye is going bad fast, I need to get in ASAP, meaning next week at latest.
