Default Warning for Those with Hearing Loss

Today I went sunning at my daughter's house. I was on a raft shaped like a chair. I fell off and had a near drowning incident. I was swimming into the pool's floor. I was seen and pulled up to the surface. It was a horrible experience.

So, clever girl that I am, after lunch I decided to jump in the pool and try it again. Well I jumped in the deep end and pushed up and guess what. I was not coming to the surface I was coming up at an angle. I swam into the side of the pool. This time I was able to get to the surface unassisted but it was frightening.

Apparently with the loss of inner ear function I cannot tell which way is up when under water. That can be the only reason I can imagine for the incidents as I have been swimming since I was a child and I am 63 and I know top from bottom.

SO BE VERY CAREFUL SWIMMING IF YOU HAVE LOST THE FUNCTION OF YOUR INNER EARS.

Yikes. Please tell your doctor. It may be normal for your type of hearing loss, but there are often things you can do to help. Here is some info and resources for having this evaluated.

Your docs also must rule out Wegs affecting the central nervous system. A simple MRI will do that. I do hope you have a Wegs specialist to consult. Many times with Wegs, serious conditions get ignored because they're automatically attributed to drug side effects or other known conditions.
