    Default Vacation spot

I know many of you are adventurous folks and like to keep physically active. I also know that can be somewhat challenging when dealing with WG. My husband and I both have respiratory issues - but we LOVE outdoor activities. We were thrilled to discover a new park within a park - The John Dillon Park - in the Adirondack National Park. It is located between Long Lake to the south and Tupper Lake to the north. They are committed to make the outdoor experience accessible to people with physical challenges - but the park is for everyone. It has a BEAUTIFUL, remote lake. No motor boats allowed. we are kayakers, so appreciate the quiet very much. If you are a hiker, it is perfect. Sometimes (most times?) hiking can be a challenge because of various conditions. And many parks for the physically challenged provide only short trails. This park has a nice long trail (6 miles I think) into the wilderness. It is completely cleared away and is gravel paved. Easy to navigate, while still giving the feeling of the wilderness. We were absolutely thrilled. Alas - it was raining cats and dogs all three days we were there. But it is definitely some place we plan to go to when we can use our kayaks. Anyway - here is the web url in case anyone is interested.

Adirondacks are amazing. I have another Weggie friend that lives in that area.

Phil, I don't think we could walk six miles now though it would be nice to try and see how far we could get, wouldn't it?

From the map, although the print is small, it looks like it is a little south of Malone, NY, where my maternal grandfather grew up. I wish I lived close enough to visit that area! It looks like a really great park, and I'm glad you and your husband are able to enjoy it and your various outdoor activities even with the health issues that you have. I need to try kayaking someday.... where I live, it is really pretty ridiculous that I haven't!

Glad to hear from all of you! I am feeling pretty well. Have started my daily walk now that the weather is cooperating. I wheeze like crazy for the first mile and after that - smooth sailing. It actually clears out the congestion and definitely improves my poor old back! I see my favorite specialist next week and we will go over all my meds and figure out what I need to keep and what can be tossed.

Again - It would be a great park if you ever get a chance to visit. It is a fair distance south of Malone. I'd say maybe a two hour drive?? And a very different topography. But well worth the trip. Don't forget, the six mile trail goes both ways..and nobody will know if you only walk for 10 minutes in and 10 minutes back. The deer and squirrels are pretty good at keeping secrets!

Jacquie, good to hear about your daily walk, too, and it reminds me I need to get off my you-know-what. There are three days in the week, including today, I could easily take a half hour walk on my road, and other days I could do it in the evening. I know a half hour isn't much but it would be a good start. Hearing about your wheezing inspires me more, since I don't think that would usually happen to me! I'm glad it goes away after a bit.
