    Default Elevated neutrophils

    Hello to the group!

Has anyone experienced an elevated neutrophil count in blood tests? My daughter's most recent blood work showed elevated neutrophils. She has previously had normal blood work, with the exception of depleted B cells (due to treatment with rituximab).

She has been referred to a hemotologist/oncologist by her rheumatologist. I am understandably concerned, and am hoping this elevation might be due to a recent string of upper respiratory infections.

    Any experience?

    Many thanks in advance,

    ~Jane

    Had they been normal before?

My WBC goes up and inflammation markers when I get an infection. Not so sure about neutrophils?

Jane, I sent a reply to your PM.

Basically, for everyone's benefit, I had the same thing and leukocytic leukemia was the thoughts being thrown around by the haematology dept doctors.
After many months of prodding and poking, it ended up being either the MTX had kept things under control.......or that it was caused by the high inflammation levels due to RA and Wegs.
My ESR and CRP were also elevated at the time........and still are above normal.

High neutrophil counts can also be caused by stress and/or infection.

I wish all the best for your daughter and hope for a positive outcome.......in that it is just from the infections.
    Keep Smiling

    Hi,
my neutrophils are elevated for years. I cant remember since when. (sometime since having WG).
    in my WBC it is:
neutrophils % 79.6 or more. the norm is untill 75.
neutrophils # 10.03. the norm is untill 7.7.
it is always with my lymphocytes low, 12.5 when norm is above 22.
    check everything anyway.
    I hope it is nothing.

    Jane,

In 3yrs of blood tests, I have very rarely had normal neutrophils, wbc, sed rates or lymphocytes. My wegs specialist is usually just concerned with the inflammation markers and that the neutrophils, even high and lymphocytes low that they look ok. That is very alarming being referred to those guys, hopefully it is just from infection. I wish your daughter all the best for good news.

Thank you for all your responses. Her appointment is not for a couple of weeks, so some time to worry while waiting for what I am guessing are labs/tests/ then hopefully some results. I will keep all you dears posted as I learn more...

I certainly appreciate all the Beta from your own experience and will hope for the best!

    Hugs to all....Jane
