I actually lived in Spain a few years in high school. Is there any chance of going to Madrid for treatment? I mean at least to set up a proper treatment plan?

OK Barbara...you have a couple of weird diseases, you live in an 'uneducated' area, your finances are limited, you're probably going to stay with your horses forever, you have a very sturdy and good grasp on life as you know it now...soooooooo, let's contact and tell your story to some places who CAN help you...hmmmm? Think about it, you are unusual, moreso than say me who lives in an urban humdrum mundane life...hehe...YOU have a story to tell and there are possibly docs who would love to treat you, even if by email, phone, consult, whatever...just an idea...you want to keep riding and caring for your babies?? Then start reaching out beyond your limited area...there are those who would love to help you...best of luck!

I saw a psychiatrist tonight because I just can't talk to my new doctor, she is horrible. The psychiatrist was great and since I have been medication free for so long and am in much better condition that most I feel really lucky and I don't think I would go back on steroids and the rest. I am seeing a specialist in Madrid in a few weeks so that might help clear up a few of my latest symptoms, so I don't think it is just finances that keeps me here, I think after have gone through so many tests and biopsies and taking the meds for over 6 years, I am much better now. I don't want to be a guinea pig or a pin cushion any more I just want to have the best quality I can for as long as I can and right now I am getting that with my horse. A lot of you may say that I am risking my life but I am in a very happy positive state now and I wasn't on all of the meds and I certainly didn't go into remission until after I had stopped meds for over 6 months. You are all so kind, and I am learning so much here, maybe I will find something that will change my mind, I just wish some of you could try my therapy, it is fun and easy to do with no stress on the heart. The horse does the work and I get the benefit. Animo to all, Barbara

Hmmmmm, I maintain a healthy respect for such an awesome animal...but i also retain a genuine fear (was stepped on in my youth, my fault being wrong side of a mount)...thus the horses know I am scared and so do I! I'd need much more therapy! LOL!

It sounds like you are in pretty good shape to me ,Barbara, in spite of all you've been through, though I'm forgetting the details of your latest symptoms. But from the upbeat way you sound, and being able to ride your horses and all, it surprised me to hear the doctors were talking about hospice and giving up on you. Yes, I understand why you would not want to move... I'm the same way. Just keep in touch with us here on the forum, being too isolated socially as well as medically cannot be too good, and you will get a lot out of all our sharing and support of each other on here. I can easily see how your rides can be therapeutic as well as joyful. More power to you!

I have great doctors in Madrid and that is where I go now when I need help as a matter of fact I will be going in May probably for another eye operation. My new doctor here is so bad, I can't even talk to her so I asked to see a psychiatrist. She is really on the ball. I have only had two sessions and she has already been in touch with the pain unit and many other groups that might help me. so at least I now have someone here in my little backwards corner of Spain that might be able to help me. Where did you live in Spain and what high school did you go to? Thanks for caring, Barbara

i lived near Madrid, at Torrejon. My father was in the Air Force, so I went to an Armed forces high school. A lot of good memories, though I didn't appreciate it properly at the time

I knew Torrejon very well but it has been closed for quite a while I think. It used to be the only place you could buy good meat. Several restaurants in Madrid made their fortune from it. American beef. I am a vegetarian but the rest of my family are meat eaters. I will contact that doctor and see what kind of help there is. Funny thing is my knew Doctor, that I can't stand or talk to is the head of rare diseases for Almeria, but has given me no help just a few phone numbers that don't exist anymore. I live in Mojacar, Almeria. We have sun all year, about 15 days of rain. About the best climate in Europe certainly the best in Spain. It is desert and lots of dry river beds, Like California, my home State, you can be at the beach and in a few hours out skiing. One of our daughters lived in Madrid for about 6 years, that is why I know it so well and how I could afford to go to Madrid for treatment because I could stay with her. Thanks for everything, abrazos y ánimo, Barbara
