Would you believe I can no longer open my own thread that I originally started. So, I will carry on with part 2 of this thread. Here's the latest standings....

She's still going. She is behind another rookie by about 3 hours. There's quite a few people at McGrath. I've been there or, at least, flown into McGrath -- nice little town with a couple hundred people. I would think it would be terribly difficult for her to continue on with a sprained ankle. Four mushers have scratched so far. It's a very, very tough race. Cindy is now carrying the red lantern.

Anne, Google showed me this...

A red lantern is awarded to the last musher to finish Iditarod. The longest time for a Red Lantern was 32 days, 15 hours, nine minutes and one second by John Schultz in 1973.
The quickest Red Lantern musher Celeste Davis with a time of 13d 05h 06m 40s.

Thanks, ChrisTin..... could have googled it myself. Well, even if she finishes last, it will be a great accomplishment. I enjoyed perusing the trivia and facts link, too.

I see she's got quite a ways left to go. More power to her!!!

She left Ophir and is on her way to Iditarod. I'm not sure what is at Iditarod now. It's probably nothing more than a name along the trail, but it started out as a mining town 100 years ago. It is the halfway point for the trip. Can you imagine coming into a Idiatrod after a week on the trail and thinking "sheeezeee, I'm only half way"......
