    Default Looking too far ahead

Should we be doing this? - This is a comment that I have just received

My husband and I are planning a trip to Graceland. This has been on my bucket list for 40 years, well maybe not a bucket list but in my dreams.

We were going to go to Hawaii for our 25th wedding anniversary and then I was sick (later proved to be WG), so we didn't go.

The plan now is to go to Hawaii for our 30th wedding anniversary and then on to Memphis and Graceland for my 50th birthday....these two milestones just happen to be 10 days apart.

I have two years to save hard or win tatts.

    Anyway, the question was asked.
Being sick, should you be looking that far ahead? You never know what will happen within the next two years.

My answer.......of course I should. Why should WG stop me from having my dreams. How far do you think I should be looking ahead too?
You know the old sayings - take one day at a time, don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today, live like today is your last

    Hey Michelle,

Go for it! Graceland is fascinating and a good Elvis fan could spend most of a day there. Beale St. In downtown Memphis has a lot of blues bars. You should also check out the parade of the ducks at the Peabody Hotel.

Of course you should, Michelle. I know you will take all precautions as far as catching things, knowing where to go for help if you need it, etc. But two years is not that far off, and anything could happen to ANYONE in that amount of time. I would start planning and enjoy the process.

I would plan ahead. I do even though it is highly doubtful I would ever be able to travel like that.

Planning things has become very different for me with this disease. I would go ahead and make the plan - just don't plan the results. Be open to whatever reality is when the time comes and just go with it.
It sounds FUN- take Phil with you.

I think we all know our limitations, I presume, sadly for many of us we have to create new dreams. Do as much as you can now. I have a saying "bad is good when worse comes along." Somebody I know wanted to go to Disneyland with her family so she just upped the Predisolone, wore a mask on the plane and had a wonderful time. She said she was so full of energy because of upping the pred and for the 3 weeks it was so worth it. I'm going to speak to GP about this and Rheumy as I want to travel too but have put it on the back burner I'm giving it one more year to try to get into some form of remission if it does great, I'm off. If not I'm going to go anyway.
Have as much fun as possible and do lots of wonderful things everyday that you feel up to it. Sometimes I know that a certain event will wipe me out for a couple of days so I always weigh up the importance.

    Hi Me2
Glad you mentioned about planning. I have accepted so many invitations and not made it. So now I tell everyone that Im "in to spontaneity".

Col, I went to Disneyland in December. Did not up my pred, however my rheumy did write out a plan of attack should things go haywire, such as upping the pred etc. I also wore a surgical mask on the planes and everything was wonderful. Also managed to walk more miles than I have in a long time, without any problems.

I work for an insurance company and we specialise in insurance for fare paying passenger vehicles (buses and coaches). It is a saying within our office, that you can get hit by a bus tomorrow. You never know what is around the corner but that is no reason not to plan things in advance.

An old school friend had a ten year plan with boyfriend before they got married. Year 1, rent. Year 2, buy a house. Year 5 have a child, Year 10 be mortgage free etc etc. Well they were divorced after year 6 (I think it was)........those ten year plans suck.
Should we therefore just be spontaneous, do what we want to do (within affordability) as soon as we can.
What if that bus is around the corner.

Never fear......I will do the trip in 2 years time and I will have a fantastic adventure. I guess if I am sick, my lovely husband will just have to carry me

Temporarily upping the pred a bit, with doctor's approval, does sound like a bit of a plan, depending on what shape you are in at the time and how drug-immunosuppressed you already are, which you wouldn't want to add to a lot. (My first thought was yeah, up the pred! But then I though of the other issues!)

Ditto about accepting invitations. I don't know how many times I've heard myself say, "I just don't think I'll be up to it...." At least it gives them some understanding that I'm really sick, if I'm turning down the opportunity to do something fun.
