    Default Anion gap?

Hi everyone. Can anyone explain what an anion gap is and what it's associated with...the liver, kidneys, etc? I just saw this on a copy of lab results. What does low results mean? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I googled it, Jan. Here's what I found:

Default Did your anion gap come back low before a major attack? I'm investigating this myself

Very, very interesting! I noticed this with myself and a friend here, and mentioned it to him... It seems from what I've read, its pretty common in wegeners, my question is why? I've been studying this, but unfortunately there's just not enough time in a day! I only know what I'm sure the article includes, haven't looked yet, but seems the liver and oxygen levels are involved... My short term memory is not great lately, so I am having a hard time remembering exactly... This is fascinating to me, though... Looking for so many answers with this wegeners thing, and I will get my answers, believe me... Debra...

Hi Tom. Curious, I took the formula from the link above & went to check my labs. They dont test my HCO3 here. Do they check yours ? Is your formula the same as in the link ?
