Here is Mt. Rainier, a volcano, appearing to tower over the city of Tacoma, WA, which is about midway between Seattle and Olympia. There are actually many pics of it available on the web, I just didn't have a good one in my personal files. Click on it to make it bigger.

As I said elsewhere, we tend to be snobby about natural beauty here. But I could personally find a lot to enjoy just about anywhere. So long as it doesn't involve cockroaches or surly waiters.

Well, I have never seen the beauty of Canada, which I'm sure is equally if not more impressive. Someday I would love to take that train trip across Canada that I have seen on TV.

We have natural beauty here in Maryland, too-- a *huge* number of stinkbugs have made the state their home. My teacher is now calling the stinkbug the Maryland state bird.

Anne, thanks for the photo of Mount Rainer. I knew there were a few volcanoes in that area but following the chat here decided to do some research and 'googled'' Volcanoes of the Cascades. Saw lots of lovely pictures with beautiful scenery and discovered that there are much more than a "few" ....thankfully just a few active!

For all volcano-philes: Here are a couple of snapshots of Mt. Baker, Washington's northernmost such peak. These pix are taken from near my house, but at twice the elevation. FYI, Rose, Oregon has some nifty ones, including Mazama (of Crater Lake fame), and Hood, which is visible from the Portland area.

Yes, Al, Mt. Baker is a beauty. I spend some time in the San Juans and see it from there, on the ferry, etc. So you are from Bellingham or thereabouts, according to the WegMap? Jolanta isn't far from there, in B.C. She and I talked by PM about maybe having a Weg meetup some day. Yes, nice pics, you look great.
