I don't have copies of my results because I don't feel the need. They are all on the computer system at the hospital and I can view them any time I like. I usually scan through them with the doctor at each appointment, but since they keep an eagle eye on them and always call me if there is a problem I don't have any concerns.

I understand what your saying but another reason for having copy is i attend four different hospitals which have different computor systems plus bonus if i have them done with gp he always asks and get them back by the next day

I get copies and put all my important lab results into a health record on my PDA (IPOD) and it comes in handy for those times the doctors can't find my lab results. The program will also chart or graph my results which helps me figure out if there is any big change and need for concern. I can also view the lab results on the electronic record my rheumatologist keeps at his clinic and for other doctors at that clinic like hematology and nephrology. Sometimes I print them out for my local internist if she doesn't have copies already.

I find the PDA health record very helpful too when they ask for list of current meds since it is too hard to remember them all.

My go surgery thinks I was born yesterday. If I had a blood test done at the hospital and I ask for t
he results at the gp's I am told that they can't gain access to their systems. What rubbish!! I know they can and when I tell them I know they can they sheepishly get the results for me. They are so reluctant to help if they think it's not their direct responsibility.

Our province has a program whereby you pay a small fee annually to obtain copies of all lab work.

We were advised by Holly's doctors to do this and it could be a valuable tool if she ever has a flare-up or any other type of "complication" from the meds.

I've entered it all in to Excel and watch it closely. It also helps to keep her diet in check!!

The doctors' suggestion may be due to her age because once she turns 18 she will be in the hands of the regular Nephrologists/Specialists at the Foothills Hospital -- no longer Alberta Children's.

I'm like Jack - all my bloods are done in the same place and by the same doctor. My rheumy essentially acts as my GP now.

I just heard this show this morning on the radio and thought it's perfect for this thread. Hopefully the link works. It's about 'Breaking up with your doctor'
