    Default Auto moderation

    Hello
I've had a *h*u*g*e* number of spam signups over the past few days. I'm thinking there are a lot of kids out there with spare time. At this point I'm manually deleting them but I'm going to add some 'auto moderation' software to the site. This software will approve/delete new signups based on whether they appear to be spammers or not. Basically it'll do what I do now but without me touching the process. As with all things automatic I'm doubtful it's foolproof. In the event of junk being posted on the site by some kid that's managed to slip past the net, just private message me. That'll page my phone and I'll jump on it more or less straight away. If it proves to let too much through I'll go back to the good old fashioned manual method which is actually surprisingly therapeutic.

In addition to the above the software also moderates posts here on the forum. I've turned this facility on but I'm pretty sure I've set it to trap genuine junk rather than you good people. Feel free to point out any weird errors or posts that you think shouldn't have been moderated in this thread.

There seems to be a lot of it about at the moment. It is a problem just at the moment on another site where I am a Moderator. Makes you wonder why they do it, one made over 40 new threads the other day which must have taken ages and they were all deleted with a single click. Why?

As far as legitimate posting and membership issues, this forum seems to exist quite nicely without visible moderation. It must attract "nice" people. Interesting to hear that you still have to do the housekeeping in the background.

Thanks Andrew, I am having trouble getting my private mail right now. Is anyone else having this problem?

Make sure your inbox isn't full. See down the bottom of your PM inbox there's an indicator telling you how much room you have left.

I have had a few hitches from the site today when making new posts and when deleting an old one. Also, this thread did not appear in my What's New listing.

Yeah odd that the hitches appear when I turn this thing on. I've switched it off for now. Let me know if it gets better.

I also have problems with postings and deleting posts.

Yeah I might have to switch the forums off to give me and it some privacy so I can beat the **** out of it and straighten it out a bit One night over the weekend probably. Should only last an hour or so.
