Does anyone else with GPA suffer from extreme nausea (including vomiting) during the morning hours with their GPA? I'm having a very rough time lately dealing with gastro issues that I'm sure would also result in a loss of appetite/weight loss if I had not upped my Pred to 15MG (per advice of Rheumy). Once the Pred takes hold I can get through the day, but I'm wiped by 9PM, and then it is back up at 6AM to puke my guts out. FWIW: no blood in vomit, mostly clear/white in color.

This has been going on now for about 9-10 days. I had good labs just two weeks ago and was feeling great. Can't believe the bottom fell out on me so fast.

The nausea/vomiting was part of my initial symptoms when I was diagnosed, which also included night sweats, roaming joint pain, blood in urine, and ultimately coughing up blood. None of these other symptoms have returned (for now).

I've had other bouts of the morning nausea (none this severe). I mentioned the symptoms to my local Dr. as well as a specialist, but they have never seen a connection between GPA and such nausea. Specialist recommeneded working with a Gastro Dr. to get an upper endoscopy.

My next RTX is on the schedule for 17 December. Can't come fast enough.

Any input/advice greatly appreciated.

Medicine can cause this. Once I took my prednisone without food and spent the entire day vomiting.

Thanks Masha. I've developed a habit of having a single slice of buttered toast with my pred in the morning (breakfast of champions).

Residual symptoms can differ from initial symptoms preceding diagnosis and treatment. Usually there is some over lap but GPA symptoms can evolve over time and change into some thing new that might be harder to recognize as related to GPA. I developed some new GPA symptoms this year as a residual symptoms which I never had before. They were joint pain in my jaw and a dental sensitivity that I thought was a dental issue or inflamed tooth. But the dentist could not find anything wrong to explain it and then the pain starting moving around and decreased with an increase in pred meds. So I figured out it was another new GPA symptoms that comes and goes along with my other residual GPA symptoms.

Nausea though is often a side effect of many meds so check out with pharmacist if any med might be causing this for you. GERD can come from pred and other meds we take for treatment so usually they give you a med for GERD and the dosage might be an issue too. Good luck in sort things out. Best wishes for better health.

I too had unexplained dental sensitivity ( for September and October) and increase left hip pain. I thought I was in remission. Towards end of October my sinuses were painful, saw my ENT, sinuses more red and friable. Seen by rheumatologist, probably relapse even though all labs are normal. Prednisone increased, scheduled for rituxan (my second course) December 3. Felelingbetter on increase prednisone (even though I hate the stuff)

Appreciate the detailed response drz. I too developed dental sensitivity, but it started after I was put on Bactrim by the Cleveland Clinic. Lasted about 6 weeks. Extreme sensitivity to cold foods.

Kinda late here, but just read this. Sometime after my dx in 2010, I began to have morning sickness most mornings. I don't believe I've ever actually thrown up, but sometimes I really have to fight it off . Not on prednisone anymore, and still. ...
I also get nauseated if my stomach gets empty. Not sure if its other drugs or what. It has resulted in a little weight gain!

I didn't see this thread before.

Dental sensitivity here also. With my latest flare in february of this year. Treatment with Bactrim eventually made it disappear.
Morning sickness every now and than, not that severe...

Imuran made me vomit like hell, 15 times in an hour, about 3 weeks after I started to take it. So I stopped.
