Just got the wigs diagnosis. Looking for best place to go for treatment. It started with eye redness and my eye MD sent me to cornea specialist that quickly said this is auto immune. Positive anac test. Oddly just had sinus surgery in May to correct a few things and had my hip replaced a year ago. I have some joint pain but chalked that up to turning 60. Can’t get in to rheumatologist till end of November.
New to the forum hope to get some insight.

Someone I know in VA and one in MD are going to Dr. Seo at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for WG/GPA. He is very highly thought of by them and by the Vasculitis community overall. If you can't get in to see him or another rheumy before November, I hope another doc can get you started on some prednisone and maybe an immunosuppressant. The pred should help your eye symptoms a lot. Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us.

Thank you Anna - I am in health care and trying to pull in a few favors to be seen sooner . I think this eye thing has been going on since July - hope I can get the additional lab work completed ahead of the visit so we can move forward. What does the MTX make you feel like ? I have been on prednisone before with out much fuss - low dose of coarse.

Hi, Bradhunter,

At this point I don't even feel the MTX since I've been taking it about 7 years. But at the beginning there was a slight feeling of nausea, though not enough to actually throw up, and maybe a bit of a headache or general feeling of wonkiness, best word I can think of. I do split the dose between morning and evening, which helps. Some may report stronger side effects. If you have a light case of WG, MTX might be enough. I started on CTX, a stronger drug with its own set of issues, because I had lung involvement in addition to sinus and ear involvement. When things got better I was switched to MTX.

As for prednisone, you will probably need a higher dose of that for awhile until things start to improve. Best of luck.

Anne
