What does it mean when you have protein in your urine 1+. Dr. acted like it was no big deal.

It can mean many different things like.. urinary tract infection, dehydration, diabetes, side effect to the medicine's and a sign of kidney's not working properly. Just make sure you check out the urine soon and get some blood work to check out the kidney function ..creatinine.

I quite often have protein in my urine, but the docs seem to treat it as more of a warning to check everything else carefully rather than a major problem in its own right. I think it starts to become a problem if it goes along with other negative results.

I hate to be gross, but when yo have protein in your urine, does it smell bad? Sometimes mine reeks like dead mouse and even my kids noticed it one day when one came into the john to ask me a question. 'Mom, your pee reeks!' LOL.

No. Pee only smells when I take certain antibiotics.

Could be an infection.

Yeah, they tested it, no infection, but that's how they found the hematuria. Maybe hematuria is what makes it reek...

Ah, there we go then. Well, that explains it. It's nice to know the reason. Thank you!!!!!

Don't miss your appointment for any reason and if it gets worse push your way in sooner.

Ok, no problem. The hematuria isn't visible. But it's been going on for quite some time. Once in awhile I'll see a tiny blood speck but otherwise it's normal looking.

I actually had those dip sticks to check my urine every month. It will check blood and protein in the urine. I was told by my WG specialist that if I have protein or blood in the urine...call immediately! I have a kidney transplant, so I have to be very careful. I do bug the doctors, but I have to get things checked out! Or I really rather live in the land of DENIAL!

I never thought to try the dipsticks. I'll ask dr if I should do that. Thanks for the tip! :)

She actually gave them to me free! I think she was concerned. I need to make appointment in June to see her. Long ten hour drive, but worth it. Sanity lives!!

Lol, you made me smile!
Actually, I sometimes think sanity is over-rated! :P
