Could turn out to be an interesting thread.

It has never occurred to me to try it for medicinal purposes because in the UK it is illegal, obtained from questionable sources and I don't want to start smoking again. I'm not even sure that it has true medicinal benefits or if it is just the brief high that gives some relief from illness.

I find it helps with nausea more then anything, you maybe right about the benefits but id rather smoke a joint then oxycotton or anything along those lines. Im afraid of addiction but at this stage maybe addiction shouldnt be a concern

I have no idea about it's medicinal use for nausea in Weggies, but the thought of inhaling any type of smoke with vasculitis just doesn't sound like a good idea to me. It also gives me the heebie-jeebies to think of adding another drug to the mix. I don't think anyone knows how cannibis interacts with Wegs drugs.

If you're having so much pain that you require painkillers, that's a sign of active Wegs. Suppressing that pain without treating the Wegs can be deadly.

Boomer do you see a Wegeners specialist? I go to Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and they are wonderful. I travel far to see them, but I only have one life to live and want to make sure I am getting the best care so that I can take good care of my young children. Depending on where you live, there are several top notch wegener rhuematoligist you can see in this country. We are here to help. I am concerned about your puking. What other medicines are you taking?

I have an outstanding medical team in Edmonton AB, i have been with the same nephrologist since the beginning and he had been wonderful as far as I am concerned, I never wait in lines at the doc nor do i need an appointment anymore to see my family doctor (helps that she is also my neighbor and the only doctor to take me seriously. I havent taken the cyclophosphimide for months but that may be the cause of my stomach, which i now have a gastrologist for and i have an infection in my stomach and urinary tract causing the sickness. I know im having a flare up because im getting alot of the pain returning but i go to edm Wed. I have a very stressful family situation at the time and that also is a cause of the flare up. I also dont smoke pot often i have a vaporizor that steams the THC instead of burn. As for meds im finally down to 10 mg prednisone, bactrim, diovan, imuran, alendronate, folic acid, pantaloc, lasik, vit d vit b 12 i also have been diabetic since the hi dose prednisone, and take shots once a week for blood count

Boomer, some of the medicines you are on are hard on your stomach. Sorry about you infections. How is your blood sugars doing. Do you test your blood sugars daily? My doctor order me a one touch so that I can test my blood sugars daily when I was on high does of Prednisone. Need to make sure that your blood sugars are controlled since you have an infection, blood sugars can sway high when you have an infection. Like Sangye always says we all need a Wegeners specialist because we are so different and also treatment is always changing. I am glad you are on this site. I have learned so much about my disease and what to expect. I continue to learn... Feel better soon Boomer. :)

Elephant raises a couple of excellent points. When I was initially on high dose pred, my blood glucose was high, too. My doc also prescribed a home tester so insurance would cover it. For the first few months, it would only go high when I was hospitalized (which was a lot). My first day home it would be a lovely 80 again. Never had a problem since. It gave me a lot of relief to check it myself.

The relationship between high sugar levels and infection is very strong. One can worsen the other.

I'm sorry you have high levels of stress. That's been a major problem for me, too. It can definitely cause the Wegs to flare.

Hi Boomer,

I'm sorry to hear that your home life is not the best. I am glad to hear that you are confident with your docs though.

I have 4 cousins and an aunt that live in Edmonton. Where abouts to you live?

Hi Boomer, I have had patients smoking pot to help with nausea when on heavy duty chemo and sear by it, I also had patients that got more sick from smoking it . I guess you need to talk to your doc, she or he would be in the best place to let you know if you should or not smoke. I am glad you have a good team, it is worth 70% of your sucessful recovery. Keep a close look on your sugar it is dangerously high.

Well i'm not in the crippling pain nearly as much as when first dx, and my blood sugars are controlled thru diet and nutrition now and they are in check 5.6-9.4. I dont usually need insulin and my creatinine levels have been a little hi around the 200 area but i usually sit around the 180 mark anyway.
I'm very appreciative of everyone for getting back to me so soon I will further my investigation into natrual healing methods as well. I have only one goal in life and that is to be able to play with my daughter like a thirty year old should. I get so tired so easily now and have been trying to get more exercise but with the cold i just feel horrible.
my daughter needs me now :) so i will come back soon

Hey boomer, I have been thinking about this a lot recently.
I suffer from nausea, headaches, and migraines, mostly from medication but also from
stress etc and have been looking into this possibility for myself. I have been doing a bit
of reading on the use of medical Mary Jane and as far as I can see, if it is used responsibly,
gives you some relief and is from a 'reliable' source there isn't a whole lot of evidence of
detrimental affects. Just make sure that you do ok mentally on the stuff as it can be
dangerous if you have a strong history of psychosis or mental health issues in the family.
All in all I think if it works and your doctors know about it, go for it!
Good luck, and enjoy, i'm pretty sure we all deserve a bit of the 'good' side affects from 'medication'!
p.s. hi to all, hope you are doing well, whatever that may mean to each of you

Hi Boomer, I live in Vancouver and belong to a medical marijuana dispensary. I've run it by both my GP and my pharmacist. From what I understand marijuana doesn't interact with any other drug. I actually prefer not to get high (no judgment here though… i used to enjoy it when I was healthier and know a few people who are helped by it) I'm probably the first person who ever walked in there asking for whatever products will help decrease pain and inflammation without making me high. They have lots of products besides weed that you smoke--edible things like cookies and candies, sodas, lemonades (i wish they'd make something without so much sugar. I think there is a cornbread but I'm also gluten- and dairy-free, so edibles are tricky). What I've found the best for me is a 'tincture' or oil placed under the tongue with a dropper. Because it is made with CBD (cannabinoids or something like that) and no THC, it has the anti-inflammatory and pain relief effects with no high. This was crucial for me because I'm constantly driving kids to activities, hosting playdates etc. and have very few times when I can be out of it. I go to bed at the same time as my kids to manage the fatigue…. :bored: This type of tincture has been shown to help with all sorts of ailments and some even claim it can cure cancer. I have no idea about that, and also don't know if it's doing anything for my actual disease or just making me feel better by placebo effect. But at this point, I don't care! Whatever works. They also have creams made from marijuana and hash, that really help with the pain (better than any arthritis cream i've tried, but not a lasting effect unfortunately). If you're able to use a vaporizer or edibles and it makes you feel better, I don't see what could be wrong with it. But as others have said it's probably a good idea to run it by your doctor. If you want to get it from a dispensary you need a doctor or naturopath to complete the form in any event. I like the idea of the dispensary because you know the source and that it's safe (hopefully; there was one recall last week that made me wonder). Hope you continue to feel better!
