Mabey you need a stronger antibiotic? Is it Wegeners ulcer? Or it's possible your immune system is so low it is hard to fight it. Are you seeing a Wegener's specialist? Lots of questions, but just curious... :)

Hi, it is just below the amputated toe and the surgeon had to go so deep due to the klutsy vascular spec who was determined I had diabetes so probably in all the callus, the germs are dwelling. Is that normal, do you know? So many infections I mean

Are they certain it's an infection? Have they cultured it to see, and to get the right antibiotic?

I've had 2 conditions that they treated over and over as infections.
1) Wegs ulcer on legs-- they can get infected but mine didn't. Looked infected but repeated cultures and biopsies only showed Wegs

2) Calf/Ankle/Foot Edema Gone Bad-- if I have too much stress, my ankles and feet swell more than normal and the fluid gets trapped there. Gets swollen, red, hot, extremely painful. Looks like cellulitis but clears up if I stay in bed for a couple of days.

It is just below the amputated toe, so I think that deep hole is the culprit. He had to go so deep due to misdiagnosis.

What kind of specialist is treating it, Moyan?

You could have had diabetes, which is not uncommon in wegs. Moyan, who is your specialist in Vancouver, do you have one?

As Sangye has already said - beware of the infection diagnosis. Wegener's presents it self with the same symptoms as an infection, but obviously will not respond to antibiotics.

On the other hand, it could just be an infection due to suppressed immune system. I used to get lots of random stuff until I started taking Bactrim.

Moyan- because of the issues Jack, elephant, Sangye, and Jolanta bring up, please become your own best advocate here. Sangye in particular had a heck of a problem with wrong treatment of ulcers on her leg that ultimately proved to be related to WG, which means they didn't respond to standard treatments with antibiotics. I'd think the very first thing they should do is a culture. If nothing grows, it's WG in all likelihood.
