I had not heard of a medication called mesma until SandyN posted it here:
http://www.wegeners-granulomatosis.com/forum/new-member-introductions/4978-here-i-go-again.html#post99240

I searched the forum at the time and found nothing so did not research any further, assuming it had nothing to do with Wegener's. Now, four months later, I had a urologist ask me if it was given to me along with cyclo. It was not. He explained that it is hoped to prevent cyclo induced cystitis, which nearly killed me a couple years ago.

So now I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of Mesma, been prescribed it, any comments, etc...

They gave it me before every ctx infusion and then right before ctx they hit me with something that made me empty the bladder. Said it was to protect the bladder from cytoxan.

Maybe it's only used with infusions, not oral? The urologist insisted that it would have prevented my cystitis.

I'm looking to fugure out why it's not the normal thing if it's so effective in preventing something so serious. Must be a reason...

I took it when I was in the hospital and taking oral cytoxan, but was not prescribed it when I was discharged (and still taking oral cytoxan). In the hospital I had four daily infusions of it.
