I just had my first infusion on Friday and I woke up with a sore throat today. Should I be concerned? My son is sick with a bad sore throat and ear infection.

It's probably nothing, but if it persists into tomorrow, a call to your doc would be wise.

Us Weggies are always at an increased risk for infections so if it persists, then a medical consult is a good idea. There is little though that can be done for virus ones other than things to reduce the pain, like gargle, tea with honey etc. Increased sinus rinses would also be a good idea to reduce or avoid more serious problems.

I had a maintenance infusion a few weeks back and later in the week came down with the flu. I called my doc who said to monitor my temperature and if it stayed high or if I got severe chills and shakes to go to the ER (it was the weekend of course!) to get checked. Otherwise, not to worry. By and large, Rituxan does not lower our immunity to the extent that steroids and chemotherapy do. But, when in doubt, better to call/see the doc rather than stress about it. Good luck to you, feel better soon!

After my first treatment I also woke with a sore throat. Doc said the treatment caused some sinus congestion and my throat was really red = he pointed to snoring as the culprit.... from the sinus congestion
