View Full Version : Needing a good doctor in South West Florida -- Port Charlotte, Fort Myers

I've been very spoiled with a great doctor in Richmond, Virginia.

But we might be moving very soon... too far to commute.

Does anyone have an update for good doctors with Weg experience in Southwest Florida?

Fort Myers
Port Charlotte
Englewood
Punta Gorda
Cape Coral
Naples (this is borderline too far... but for the right person I'd travel it).

I can't drive to Jacksonville or Tampa.

Thanks guys!

Hi savedbygrace and welcome to the forum.

I'm from Australia so really can't give you much information, except that Christine who helps run the Vpan website lives in Naples, so she will definitely be able to help.
Check out this website as they have a section for doctors, where you may find the right one.

Welcome to the forum, savedbygrace. I also am not from the area, but highly recommend the site that Michelle linked to above. Through it, we are finding out about more and more doctors with the necessary experience to treat Wegener's and other vasculitis, in various locations in the US and elsewhere. And I think it should not be long before someone in Florida notices this thread and responds!

Wow!! I didn't know about this website - this is great!
I just emailed VPAN the name of my awesome Weg doctor in Richmond, to add to their list.

It's so nerve racking to see a new doctor. I've had so many many very bad experiences with docs... having found the "diamond in the rough" once, it's hard to let go.

But this list is a big step forward in getting this process right.

Thank you SO much for taking the time to share it with me.

It is so appreciated!

Anne, thank you for your welcome. I've had wegeners for 12 years now, (I was a teen when I got it!).

I really hope someone in Florida knows something about the rheumatologists in SWF.

My mother-in-law also has Sjogrens, and I'm on a mission to get her the best help too.

Any input is so valuable!

Hi Savedbygrace,

In addition to the link Anne gave you, the Vasculitis Foundation's website has a list of specialists who will consult with your local doc.

Cleveland Clinic has a facility in Tampa. If you only needed to go there a couple times a year, it might be worth the trip. I live a little over two hours drive from Cleveland Clinic's home base. I see my doc there twice a year.

Thanks Pete, Thanks for the tip! It looks like I might end up having to travel or go with the consulting option and hope that collaboration works.

Still holding out hope that someone would have insight into a good local doctor experience.

Especially for my mom, who is older.... we'll probably be seeing the same person. I don't think she could to Tampa.
