i'd stay, don't remember your story but with that temp and heart rate I would think they would keep you. I hope they know your are immune-supressed.

Virus is what they say when the don't know what they are dealing with. Try and get them to let you stay until you have either seen a specialist or feel well enough yourself.

They are bringing in an internal medicine team. And i asked them to plz call my rhuematoligist. But what kind os infection do u think they should be looking for? They just came in and drew a d-dimer. They sent out cultures. They said they just dont feel comfortable sending me home with a heart rate that high. And yet...u know the line...they just dont know that much about wg so what do i think? Of course i WANT to go home to my kids..the hospital is not fun.

Is your Sed rate elevated or your CRP? How about WBC and RBC? I would ask to have a mask to wear while your there and if they admit you make sure they put you in a room by yourself.

I would stay there is a lot of factors that can affect your heart rate. Your no good to your kids ill, stay and get feeling better. Trust me I have spent many nights wishing I could see my kids, and or wife. While waiting for doctors to figure me out. I hope you get to feeling better.

I was in the hospital in Nov with very high heart rate but mine was irregular. It jumped back and forth between around 80 and 150. They ran all kinds of tests - blood work, EKG, echo-grams, MRI of lungs, and more I can't remember. They told me I had a UTI but I did not have the usual symptoms, just a slight temp. Turned out after bringing in a cardiologist I had tachycardia which is a problem with the heart. I am sure my tachycardia was a result of WG after hearing a talk by a cardiologist from Mayo clinic who works with WG patients. I would ask of a cardiologist consult to check this. Tachycardia causes a fast heart rate and it usually can be controlled with medications.

I am late reading this but glad they decided to keep you. You should make sure you tell them about your immune being low and they would probably put you in a private room. They probably did anyway since they think it is the flu. Keep us posted

I think it is wise to stay. I hope they understand Wegeners. Do you have anyone with you? I think it is always a good idea for someone to be with you. Two sets of ears to hear what the medical personnel say. But also someone to make sure that they ALWAYS consider the effect on your WG.

I am still here. My fever broke and i feel alot better. I think they have in mind to keep me until my flu test comes back. I really stressed that they talk to my rhuemy but they seemed very hesitant saying this may have nothing to do with wgs. Sorry i panicked on yall lastnite. I just couldnt deal with it feeling the way i did. And i didnt have service to call anyone so i came to you :) Thankyou for being there for me!!

I only now see it but I am glad that you are getting better. you can always count on the friends here to be there for you, whatever, in every hour, 24/7. I love you friends.
as for being in hospital, after what I have being through with my beautiful Phil, I learned, the hard way, couple of things: insist on being in a clean room and dont let anyone touch you without gloves. even be rude if needed. dont let them give you any med or treatment without explaining all the risks of using it. ask as much as you want even if they dont like it. insist that a wg expert will check you to rule out wg activity. ask for every expert that you need.
I hope you have someone with you to help. praying for you to go home healthy soon. hugs.

Everyone has given good advice. We know that wg activity can mimic other things, including infections, with the presence of a fever. But since that broke and you feel better, that is a relief. I hope you don't have the flu, or if you do, you can recover enough to go home soon. I don't know why they'd resist having you talk to your rheumy, when it could be related to WG and they really don't know.

Remember that any stress on the body including infection can cause a weg flare.
It would be best to make sure the weg's is under control.

I'm glad your fever broke and you feel better. I had to go to the ER with a fever while on Cytoxan to rule out an infection. It went down while I was there and they didn't find anything on labs or xray, so they did send me home but the ER doctor did tell me that if they found anything they would admit me, because he had seen other patients who were immunosuppressed with an infection get worse very quickly, so I think they are cautious and that is a good thing. Even though it is no fun to be in the ER or hospital, better to treat something before it gets worse and error on the side of caution. Hope you continue to improve and go home soon.

My flu test only took a few minutes for the results. They gave me some Tamiflu that helped reduce the symptoms. I never suspected I had the flu when I went to the Walk In Clinic. I just felt like crap and knew some thing was wrong but had no idea of what? I was worried I might have pneumonia or a Weg flare.

Given flu symptoms are one of the first symptoms of Weg and flares your worries were completely reasonable. I spent months thinking I had a series of flu's. It' better to be safe than sorry.

I'm glad you're doing better, and that they kept you.

Alarm bells tend to ring for me when a bunch of attending's decide that your symptoms are not from WG, when the last time they probably heard about WG was in med school. I had so much bad advice in my early days, thank God, I had this crew because I really felt like I knew more than those ER docs when I had to go in. Most of our symptoms mimic those of a flu, so when they're confused, and certain the body is trying to tell them something but at the same time dismiss the systemic disease that happens to affect the same regions as a flu would, my wager would be that they're wrong. I've seen this at least a half a dozen times with different people I've met here and kept in touch with outside of the forum. Be safe. Ask questions. Why would they not think it's WG? I also know a few people who have never shown any changes in bloodwork, and labs despite being in flares. Know/learn how your body reacts to WG, flu, treatment, etc. so that you can educate them, when they're confused.

Watch out for myocarditis too. A heart issue that can arise from a combination of WG and a viral infection. We are more susceptible. Just look it up.

The very first person I heard of dying from WG, shortly after I was diagnosed, I think it might have been on here.... was from a heart attack due to myocarditis directly related to the WG.

Be safe, get strong, and feel better. And ASK lots of questions. Always assume that the thing making you feel crappy is the WG, then go from there if you can eliminate that.
That's been my strategy anyways. You can eliminate it pretty quick when you get to know the nuances.

I am home :) My flu panel came back positive. I believe it was h13 strain. The tamiflu is helping alot. I feel much better. They gave me 5 liters of fluid, which helped too. My heart rate is 85 tonight :) My husband started running a fever today. My attending doc actually gave him a perscription for tamiflu. That was very sweet of him. My 8 year old also started with fever today...so i guess 3 out of the 4 of us have it. Lots of drinking (h20 of course) gonna be going on at this house!!! Thanks again for caring!

Glad you are home ,sorry you all have the flu but its better than a wg flare. Take care,rest..I would get some Lysol spray and spray the house so hopefully the 4th doesn't get it too.

So glad to hear you know what is going on, are home, and are dealing with it successfully. I hope it will be of short duration for you and your family members.
