My mom's nephrologist just told us that she will have to be on Epogen the rest of her life because her kidneys are in 4th stage.
He says that if her kidney function would have gone to 2nd stage, she wouldn't need the shots.
This was never mentioned before and he said he could save her kidney function to below 1.5.
I asked him if he could do a Erythropoietin level test to see if her kidneys are producing normal levels or not.
If her kidneys are producing normal levels, then she must have an internal bleed.
Also, from all the testimonies and research literature I have seen, kidney function gradually improves over the year after treatment. He was expecting her function to go back to normal within a month after treatment.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
