Hi All

Just wondering if anyone has experienced watery eyes?
My eyes are really watery...(looks like I am constantly crying) in the morning and afternoon but dry up and are fine in the evening. I have no pain or redness in my eyes. My Doc says its nothing to do with WG, but Its happened since I reduced my prednisone from 30mg to 15mg.
Can anyone advise....

Thanks,
Yvonne

Yes, I had constantly wet eyes for years, but eventually it went away. I have had lots of problems with my eyes, sinuses and eustation tubes due to Wegener's so I assumed this was just another symptom. Even though I often had tears running down my face, I did not consider it severe enought to warrant any action, but I have read another post on here from someone who had an operation to clear the drainage.

Hi Yvonne,
I don't have anything to add about your eyes-- I haven't had that happen. I just wanted to welcome you to the group! :)

Hello! I have noticed that most of the morning after I have taken , what is now my single dose of pred., my eyes are watery. Wasn't sure in the begining if that was what was causing it or not. Thought maybe allergies or lack of sleep but I know now after monthes on a morning dose that it isnt helping the watery eyes in the morning.

Hi, I have also noticed that my eyes have become more watery as my pred has been reduced. Just reduced to 30mg from 40 mg. Just figured that it was part of this crazy wegners ride. Always get valuable information on these support groups. Usually just a reader, figured I would chime in for once. Thanks everyone!

Hi and welcome, both bluriness and watery eyes are part and parcel of pred. I get it all day at different times and I'm down to 12mg pred and on methotrexate.

The blurry vision because of excess tearing was a concern at first. It was one reason I thought I might not be able to drive again. It stopped at some point, but I regret not writing down when.

I ended up getting reading glasses. Especially if I try to use my eyes at the end of the day. I have always had the floaters drifting by the front of my eyes. Had it checked and nothing. Now I just watch them. I have noticed that there is more pressure in my eyes since starting the meds. And headaches are many and hard to get rid of.

I did have a lot of blurred vision and eye pressure on pred. Even with the weekly IV hits the past few weeks, my eyeballs feel swollen, hard and very painful. Those symptoms will disappear as your pred dose drops, so hang in there. Keep an eye (no pun intended) on the headaches, though and tell your Wegs doc. Could be pred, could be Wegs.

After starting on mtx I noticed the pressure and eye strain and pain, but for a few days now I also have this pain on the right side of my temple. It only in one little area and I can't feel it unless I put my finger on it. I told my family doc but, surprise, he just told me to watch it. I am seeing my rheumy on the 9th and will tell him as well.

Jolanta, just to be on the safe side, I think it'd be a good idea to call your rheumy sooner and let him know. I'm concerned about Giant Cell Arteritis (http://vasculitis.med.jhu.edu/typesof/giantcell.html). Don't you go adding another vasculitide to the heap, you hear me?

Woke up in pain and swollen this morning. I have been in sinus pain for a few weeks but have a lump above my eyebrow. Went to the optom this morning. He agreed it looks swollen and doesnt dought the pain but when he measured the preasure it was fine. Then he asked about my sinus' and I told him. He gave me a clean bill of health so I called tha RA and they wanted to see me asap. Off again to another town . Got there and in record time. He checked things out asked some questions and wrote me two scrips. one for more bactrum and the other for a head ct. Back in the car for another hour and in for my weekly dose of rad. . They let me go so it must be ok? Still in pain . Hate that baseball bat to the face feeling. Anyway, the vac. will be at his office next week. Still pondering that one. Waiting for the report. Fun, Fun!!

When is your head CT scheduled for? Please get it done ASAP. That could be a sign of Wegs affecting your eye and/or brain. It's not safe to wait with signs/symptoms like that.

Did you make any progress with getting a Wegs specialist?

I got it done after I left the RA office. Even got the CD. Going to make more calls in the morning. The eye doc said to try and call Jefferson in Philly before making any long road trips. They have a Ra but I dont know if there is a spec. for WG. Only one way to find out. He also said that I wont always find all of the docs on the internet. I will try in the am than back to JHU for appt..

This was one of my first symptoms (besides having constant nose bleeds) it looks like i was crying all the time and often had people in the shopping centres come up and ask if i was ok...which was actually very nice for people to be concerned.
Mine got so bad that the tear ducts bloked causing cellulitis and constant bouts in hospital having it cleaned out in surgery. The solution was DCR (plastic tubes inserted from nose to brow) it has stopped the cellulitis but one eye continues to water, but to a lesser degree, more so if I am tired.

Yowie! What a painful place to have cellulitis. I had it in an ankle a few months ago and it was horrific pain.

Oh yeah not pleasant, didn't realise cellulitis made you feel so sick, face red and tear duct swollen and the pain. The skin was pulled so tight under the eye and then it would split because of the pressure...freak everyone out in my hospital ward....lol it was disgusting and then off to surgery to have it cleaned and packed....goodness don't know how many times it happened before I had the DCR. Once I remember driving myself up to the hospital at 5am in the morning and could only see out one eye (wasn't the smartest thing to do when I look back, but i was in pain and desperate for relief).

My mother had tearduct tubes in for a very short week. She couldn't stand it. So out they came. Havent had to much to do in that area until recently.

did she have temporary ones put in, the ones i had done under under general and they make a new drainage area and tubes are permanent?

They weren't that big. They were only to open the tearducts because they kept clogging.

I had the problem with the watery eyes to,my dr. at Wilmer eye hospital told me it was due to tissue scaring in my eyes lids.I was also told to use artificial tears because everytime i blinked the scaring would cause my eyes to water.and after using the drops it seemed to help me.
