Wondering if anyone has any insight into some strange pains I have being having.
I have been getting a dull ache near the base of my back on the right side along with cramp like pains in the lower abdomen also on the right side.
At first I put it down to the “time of the month”. But went to local Doctor (as my specialist away) just to be on safe side.
He did urine and blood tests and said there was no sign of infection or inflammation. I don’t have any other symptoms like nausea or fever.
And it is not always there. Seems to come mainly at night when I am trying to sleep.
Not seeing my Specialist till next week. I have never had any problems with my kidneys before. (Currently on 150mg Imuran and 5mg prednisone)
Does this sound like kidney involvement? Would a routine urine and blood sample pick it up? Last “Proper” urine test in hospital was about three months ago, and all was normal.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. As you all know, a week wait to see the Doctor can seem like a lifetime when you are worrying

Gall bladder pains can occur in the small of the back also...if you still have yours that is.

Did your dr do a urinalysis?
This test would tell if you are dumping protein or blood.
When my mom had kidney pain, it was flank pain from the lowest back to upper middle back.

When was your last gyn check up. Ovarian cysts can cause that type of pain.

I got strong back pain when I dropped my prednisone from 60 to 30. Hurts so bad unless I bend over or sit down, then goes away. I get side ache when I sheep. Figure that was from bad mattress. I thought it was just another side effect from the prednisone but have been down to 5 mg for about 4 weeks now and has not gone away. So went to regular Dr. and now diagnosed with Pelvic Organ Prolapse which puts a strain on the back. I did have 4 kids with-in 3 years, twins last time, now over 60, a partial hysterectomy and overweight so all contribute to that..... Just saying could be something else. Hope you find out what and it isn't anything serious.

I had kidney involvement but had absolutely no symptoms of it. Neither did I have any lung symptoms but both were picked up when admitted to hospital for the various test with all the other symptoms I was experiencing like sinusitis, hearing loss painful and swollen joints, daily elevations in temperatures, night sweats etc. Kidney involvement in the early stages is usually asymptomatic though not always but a urinalysis would certainly show some abnormalities if there was involvement. Anyway, good luck and I hope they get to the bottom of what is causing your pain.

Your kidneys ride higher than that. I have kidney stones and had renal involvement too - I have a dull ache from time to time, but when I reach up to massage it, my ribs are in the way.
I am also an MRI tech and when someone tells me a story like that we are usually trying to rule out lumbar spine or sacral arthritis or disk disease.
At any rate, a simple blood test (creatinine) would rule out kidney involvement.
