Sorry I haven't been on in awhile but between the way I feel and trips back/forth to doctors I've been just exhausted lately. Anyways, I've been having alot of increased pain in my lower back and had x-rays done that revealed stones in right kidney. Of course with WG, my rheumy has already been watching my kidneys for possible involvement; due to the fact that I have NEVER had stones before I'm a little concerned. Going in for appt w/rheumy Monday to discuss further testing or possible referral to yet another physician.

I guess my question is {for those of you who have kidney involvement} ... what r the signs? I want to think that I just got kidney stones; but with this disease nothing is ever "just" anything. Look forward to hearing from ya'll. :biggrin1:

If your kidneys are becoming involved, you'll probably show an increased creatinine level and perhaps some blood in your urine when you have a urinalysis done. Probably ought to see a nephrologist who has experience with wegs - if possible. Good luck!

Thanks Pete for responding ... haven't noticed any blood in urine at home but my last blood work my creatinine level was elevated. My doctor mentioned having a catscan and/or consult with nephrologist; waiting to speak with rheumy so she can give me name of one that she works with in Houston. So far I've been blessed with the team of specialists that I have; they all are familiar with WG and work together to treat all of my involved areas.

I have kidney involvement. Often the only signs will be elevated BUN/Creatinine and blood in your urine (which can be present even if you can't see it.). I have had 2+ blood in my urine! but never had abnormally colored urine.

Saw my rheumy Monday, stat blood work {revealed blood in urine but bun/creainine were okay} & ct scan which confirmed kidney stones {one which they think is too large to pass} so now I'm waiting on referral to specialist {yet another to add to my list}. Do it ever stop?????

Unless your doc said otherwise, I don't think stones would be related to wegs. Did he give you any indication that it was?

My signs were hematuria and I felt like hell. When a creatinine was finally done (I too have had stones and they thought the blood was from other known stones) it was 6. My kidneys had failed.
I doubt stones point to kidney involvement but a creatinine or biopsy will tell for sure. You cannot go by blood because of the stones.

Blood in urine can be detected by lab work of analysis or at home by dip stick test with special sticks prescribed to detect trace amounts of blood in urine. My doctor recommends I do this weekly to be vigilant about any early kidney involvement again.
