I saw this article (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32845180/ns/health/) on MSNBC.com today, about the danger of lung infection from dirty showerheads. It's a big deal for those of us who are immune-suppressed.

I think I've seen this stuff, if not where I live now. Urp! Wasn't there a film about it in the 1950's?

Yet another houshold threat which I think I will be ignoring. I wonder how many confirmed cases of disease have been linked to this problem? Probably very few, if any.

Oddly enough, I took my shower head apart last week to try a different spray pattern and it appeared to be clean inside.

Well, it was good motivation for me to replace the existing showerhead that's looked nasty since I moved in a year ago.

I think it's more prevalent than you might think, Jack. Probably not just limited to the mycobacterium, either. Years ago I noticed that if I swallowed water in my shower, I got an URI within a day. And those kitchen faucet water purifier things have long been known to accumulate bacteria.

I think the current state of my health stands testament to my hygene standards!

(I've been feeling like crap for weeks now with one thing after another - I wish it would give me a break for a few days :( )

I hear ya on both counts. I mean, it took me a year to replace that showerhead, even though I already had another one....

I can join you in the "feel like crap" pile the last several weeks. That's exactly the exact phrase I've been using lately! I wish I could get on the rituximab already. This ctx and pred gig ain't working. Aaargh. :(

Yeah, and you'd see what "Body By Prednisone" is all about!:( Whew! Everytime I walk by a mirror I wish I could throw up. That would help with weight loss and deal with that awful sense that I'll have enough body fat they won't have to use kindling to cremate my carcass when the time comes. :D Not to leave the impression I have body image issues or anything....!:)

Oi, don't talk about throwing up, my son the med student and our baby, called last night. He was throwing up like a projectile and some with blood. he thought it might be a salad he ate, as that came out lickety quick. You can imagine me being here and him in Poland sick. It gets worse, he called an ambulance to the hotel he was at and now he is in isolation on the infectious ward. they think that he has salmonella poisoning. so he will be there for 3 days. I am stuck here and my baby is sick. Not a happy place to be right now:(

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that! Let's hope he gets better soon- and remembers to give you a call saying he is better!:)

I should never have made that comment about a kick in the butt!

I've not been on for a few days because a bad case of thrombosed hemerrhoids has had me laying on my side in bed for the past four days. I don't know why this is considered to be a bit of a joke condition, it is affecting me more than anything else has for as long as I can remember. I'm only now recovering to the extent of sitting down for a few minutes at a time. :(

Things WILL improve! They must. They always have in the past.

Oh, man-- that's really painful. Those things are only funny LONG after they're resolved.

Well, I can usually laugh even while they're going on-- sort of combining howls of pain with laughter at the sounds I'm making. When I had that lower GI bleed several months ago, a friend conveyed the message about it to others in a way that was hilarious. I'm not going to share it here, but it did get me laughing even while I was in the hospital in terror and pain.

I hope you're feeling better soon. You've been on a roll lately. :)

Jack-

If you'd only kept quiet about it, the forum would have thought your terse commentaries were because you, like Gary Cooper, are the strong, silent type!:( (Better hope it ain't yer "new normaL"!)
