Hi sas, The Cellcept is probably keeping you in remission. Don't stop any meds with out speaking to your doc first. Just a safety precaution.

cellcept suppresses the immune system.it was initially designed for transplant patients to stop the rejection of the transplanted organ.i would consult your rheumy before stopping as you may unleash your immune system and cause a flare.

I would not do anything without my excellent specialists advice, I only wanted to know what the body does when one stops the CellCept

I had to take a double take when I saw that question! I posed that very question to my Reumy a few months ago and this was his reply. I told him it was hypothetical and I was just wondering. He replied, 'Best case scenario, you would hopefully go a couple months without a relapse. Worst case and most likely to happen is that you will relapse in a week to 1 month tops and you will relapse and we will have a battle for control on our hands!" He finished his reply to, Please don't stop taking the pred and Cellcept. The good news is Im down to 3 mg of pred, the lowest since my DX 3 years ago. I have been on as much as 60 mg for the first 6 or 8 months then tapered to 40 and then 30 only to go back to the 40 mg and sometimes back to 60mg and start the taper all over again. The goal is to get me off the pred totally because I have severe COPD and the Advair has steroid in it so they are hoping that will be enough. However, this has only been for a week now. And when I got to 5 mg, the feet and ankles swelled, the breathing is getting worse but I want to let the COPD run its course. I am concentrating on treating the Wegs and hoping the COPD takes care of its self with the Wegs. treatment. So far its not working. So my advice would be to stay on all meds that the Dr puts you on. They get paid the big money to know what is best for you. If I knew, I would treat myself. I think Im going to have to add more pred again. Our goal is no pred in 2 more weeks. I am determined to get off of it but I hope not at the detriment of my continued remission.

Thank for this Tom, I do realize that I am on the lowest and doing extremely well when compared to some with Wegs. sometime this year my specialist is going to try me out drug free, I would not do so unless he instructs me and just wondered what to expect. I do wish you all the best.
