Anyone else using sudaphed to dry post-nasal drip and reduce swelling in upper respiratory? I often get a choking sensation when getting ready for bed and sudaphed is only thing that helps, but a search of the term on this site yielded no results...curious if others use this med or alternatives? I take 30 mg pred daily and methotrexate injection once per week

Sorry, I can't help u out on this one. The only thing besides the pred is a generic tylenol on occasion. You might check with the pharmacist to see if there is something else you might take. I always go to mine with questions about drugs before the drs.

I'm on same doses cept mtx is oral. ENT recommended I take sudafed at first as the congestion was overwhelming in my sinuses. It helped, no side effects. I just don't need it much anymore.

I'm on 20 mg mtx per week, bactrim 3x/week, and will go to 15 mg pred tomorrow.

I don't take sudafed because it makes me hyperactive. To control post nasal drip, I take 10 mg loratidiene daily and 10 mg Phenylephrine at breakfast and supper time each day. (Both drugs are OTC.) Works well for me.

I take pseudoephedrine (generic for Sudafed) now and then to relieve pressure in my ears. In the past, pre WG dx, my ENT recommended it for opening up my ears, getting them to pop to relieve some of the pressure. It worked, and could actually improve my hearing. Since dx, I've seen things on here recommending not to take that sort of stuff, but I don't remember why and think it's OK in moderation. It used to make me jittery but doesn't usually anymore. I would never take it every four hours like it says on the package, but certainly will use it as needed when the pressure gets bad, whether in ears or sinuses.

I googled prednisone and Sudafed interactions and it came up with - none known.

I have never used Sudafed because it does have an interaction with my blood pressure tablets, but if it is working for you then - go for it

I could have been more specific about how I've used it for ear and hearing issues. When I take it, I only take it once or twice a day. Before my WG dx, I would take it twice a day to open up my ears, and after a week or two of that, I'd notice great improvement in the pressure and hearing... apparently my eustachian tubes were opening up better, and when they were supposed to, for one thing. Since the WG dx, I have felt more reluctant to take it that steadily along with the pred and other meds. Since I now wear hearing aids and don't know if my hearing can ever improve at this point, it's sort of a no-brainer to at least try it for a couple weeks and see what happens. I don't think my WG treating doc (not a specialist) would approve, since he seems to disapprove of just about everything he didn't prescribe.... but I might do it anyway.
