Having had a hard time getting sleep lately I've noticed its quite relaxing to just put on some good music and lie down with my eyes closed. I used to mainly listen to electronic music and some classical music, but with ample time available I'd like to try out the best of different genres. Deep Forest and Sacred Spirit were also relaxing to listen too while resting.

So you guys must have some favorites - share some with me :) Preferably giving out the artist name and the track so I'll have an easier time to track it down. I don't mind if its not mainstream, on the contrary its fun to try out different music.

Right now I'm listening to some old Jazz, like Miles Davis, Duke Ellington.

Hi wegetarian,
what a wonderful idea to think about sharing good music that helps relaxing
here is one of my favorites: it has in it sounds of water dripping
River Water - Idan Raichel | (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkHUzwlKhwg)
there is also this song with words but in hebrew, it is a love song.
The Idan Raichel Project - (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvbZ5zSZYSE)

you can see in youtube, the creator is called "Idan Raichel Project", he has more beautiful songs (although it might be a matter of taste) and if you don't mind to listen to songs in hebrew...

Thanks Alysia, found it on Spotify The Idan Raichel Project (spotify:artist:5EBnQEKoaiAk37Q7cfGrE1), it also has their 2013 album. Trying it out now.

I haven't been listening to much music lately, perhaps I should. But while going through some papers, I found amongst them a CD called Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters. It is on Dancing Cat Records. I know there are many recordings out there of this kind of guitar music, but this is the only one I have. I think of it as very relaxing. Perhaps I should put it in now.

Another one that just crossed my mind is Pat Metheny and Charlie Hayden's album Beyond the Missouri Skies. It has been around awhile. Will add more if I think of them.

I love listening to anything classical.

One song I like is "Watermark" by Enya (she has some other good songs too) Enya - Watermark - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiFTXckh0zU#t=117)

I use Pandora and they have a station called "Relaxation." I really like it and listen to it all the time. You can easily create an account at Pandora.com, it's free.

I have a radio that has 5 different sounds like rain, ocean waves, thunder, the rain forest (with different bird noises) and a summer nite. I don't listen to them often but they are relaxing, especially the rain, since I can always fall asleep on rainy days !!

Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Masters.

Tried it out last night when I woke up at 4am. Could only find one song from them from an old Hawaiian club music record. But yeah, you are right it was quite relaxing. Didn't take too long for me to ofall asleep. The only downside is I'd like to go to Hawaii.

It's not relaxing for sleep but ... I enjoy my Pandora station for Lindsay Stirling. She's a violinist but, it's kind of a funky, fun beat. The Pandora station then plays other similar music. Some of my faves are these cellists who do popular songs but just with the cello, no voices.
I have it on when I am doing things in the house, it slows me down.

Surprised so few here listen to music. Or maybe they just don't like to share.... :crying:

Today for my nap I decided to look for some Tibetan music. I used Spotify, but here is a youtube link for your convenience. Found especially this tune very relaxing, although it has a bit of a slow start:
Deva Premal & The Gyuto Monks of Tibet - Purification (HQ) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQEn6zJtjHo)

Lets try embedding it for the really lazy forum members :D

I listen to I<3Radio and have set up stations for Keiko Matsui and (the late great) Dave Brubeck. I also enjoy Clannad, especially "A Bridge (That Carries Us Over)" and "I Will Find You", Jim Brickman's "Heroes' Dreams" and "Partners in Crime" (with Dave Koz). A good relaxing album is Wyndam Hill's "Piano Sampler". John Tesh's "Halcyon Days" is a nice little piece.

Classical, I enjoy the "mad Russians" - Mussorgsky ("Pictures at an Exhibition"), Rachmaninoff's piano concertos #2 and #3, Tschaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov (especially "Scherherzade"). Dvorak's "Slavonic Dances" are not particularly relaxing, but are very good music.

I don't know any of the artists that you are talking of

I listen to Elvis and Cliff Richard and Queen

I didn't reply to this thread because I guess none of my music choices are very relaxing - sorry

Well, we call vegetarians - veggies, so why not :biggrin1::tongue1: Yep, and we can't really call him Weggie, because that is all of us, so Wedgie is a more suitable alternative, and more fun to say.

I'm the kind of person who can deal with life when I'm awake and busy but the moment I lie down to sleep my mind races. I listen to audiobooks. I love hearing a good story and it stops my mind from going to bad places. Try {Link removed. Torrent site - Andrew :) }

Although not music, I do have a relaxation audio file I could send you.
It's basically a calming voice that uses similar techniques of hypnotists.
I can't say that it's brilliant in itself, but as it gets you to focus on different things such as sensations in your body or picturing a relaxing scene, you tend to stop concentrating on the thing that is keeping your mind occupied/racing.

Another thing I've found useful if it is pain that is keeping you awake, is to concentrate on the pain. It might sound counter-productive concentrating on the thing you want rid of and is keeping you awake, but it works for me. Ignoring pain is impossible and therefore takes more effort and you still feel pain. If you concentrate on the pain and try and imagine what it looks like in your mind (trust me, when I first heard "concentrate on what your pain looks like" I thought the person must be a reborn hippy on something stronger than my pain killers).

Gilders, what you describe as concentrating on the pain and imagining what it looks like is similar to some techniques I learned about 40 years ago on a Buddhist meditation retreat.

Audio books is a good suggestion, thanks Mizamonie :) When I needed to commute for an hour to work I used to listen to The Teaching Company's audio lectures. Found them fascinating, especially the ones about archeology and myths. I need to check out what they would have.

Gliders, you have PM :) No, I don't have any pain - but concentrating on the pain when I have it sounds like an interesting idea. Its just that I wake up at night and feel wide awake. Like today, even though I went to sleep way too late I woke up at 5.30 and didn't feel tired. When I do that I usually spend an hour at my computer browsing this forum among other things, but it doesn't really help me sleep.

I'm not a fan of opera, but I really like this song. So here is a flower for all my fellow Weg's :D

Well with the weight I've put on with many years of Pred and my generally inactive lifestyle now, I think I maybe turning in to Budda
