Hi guys, my partner was diagnosed 2 weeks ago. After being released from hospital his creatinine level was at 1.84 and after a week is at 1.92.

Those of you with kidney involvement, does the prednisone and cyclophosmophide help restore this level? Is it of concern that it is rising? The doctor has advised to "drink more water" and doesnt really seem too concerned. He has to have another test in 2 weeks.

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo,

His levels are above normal, but that's only one piece of the puzzle. Does he feel ok? Does the rest of his urinalysis look normal? Is he taking meds that might elevate his creatinine level such as beta blockers?

He does need to drink plenty of water because cyclophosphamide is hard on both the kidneys and the urinary tract. Prednisone should help the inflammation.

Good luck!

Hi Pete, apart from being tired, he is fine. No pain, no cough, no temperature, normal blood pressure, normal appetite!! The only meds he is on is the Prednisone, Cyclophosphomide and an anti-biotic which is for prevention of lung infections.

The doctor said not to be concerned, but as I have read on here so many times, it is important to have a doctor who deals with Wegs. We are a very small country and his doctor is a renal specialist, so just wanted to bounce it off the people on here!

It sounds like he's about where I was two weeks after leaving hospital following diagnosis. My treatment regimen was about the same (150 mg/day ctx, 60 mg/day pred, and bactrim daily). He'll most likely continue to improve.

You may want to ask his doc to consult with a bona fide wegs specialist, but so far, the treatment sounds like it's an up-to-date protocol.

Thanks Pete, good to know he is going down the right track.....walking 20 minutes on the treadmill now, so that's a good start! Seems to be feeling energetic. All we can do is wait and see if the creatinine levels improve in two weeks.....

It can take a while for things to improve as the body can heal and recover rather slowly but like my doctors often said. If you are not getting worse, you are getting better.

Walking 20 minutes on a treadmill this early on is an excellent start! Just keep drinking that water.
