Doctors vary so much as they do in other parts of the world. Spain has some fantastic doctors, some lots better than others. I have found now, after having WG for over ten years now and since most of the doctors don't understand the problem, if they are honest they tell me that they are supposed to give me this and that but they no it won't work and person to person they wouldn't recommend it because I have been keeping fairly healthy. The best they can do is keep me comfortable. I have a few specialist that are very on the ball but in general I would say that they have given up on me. If I find something they are willing to let me try it. Good news is that my rash is going away, one less thing to worry about. I wish I would go into remission again, it felt wonderful. I haven't had any luck with the vasculitis foundation or rare disease federation, they are very pleasant then never respond . This blog is by far the best thing going. get back to me. I have mad a few contacts. thanks again Andrew, Besos a todos

Hi Barbara,

There is a doctor by the name of Maria Cid in Barcelona listed with the VF as one of the consultants. Have you heard of her?

Yes, and I have written to her at the University but as of yet I have not had a response. I have also spoken with other people from the rare disease federation and another VF. We have so many fiestas here that it is hard to get enough working days together to get something done. I have just denounced my GP for poor practice and have changed doctors and clinic. Now they are taking all new tests and seem to be much more interested. I keep you informed as I go. Along with this anemia that just hit me a few other really strange symptoms have hit at the same time. Thanks for keeping track of me Phil. I hope you are doing OK. I got depressed because I was even too weak to feed my animals. I am slowly starting to feel stronger now and will take it really easy and not over due anything. I have lots of projects I am working on and I don't want to end up resting in hospital. ánimo y abrazos, -Barbara

Did you know that the Spanish cannot pronounce Cid because the C is a th and the d is a th?

Be persistent about contacting Dr. Cid. We have to be our own best doctors.

I did not know that about Cid and Spanish.....interesting.

Best of luck in getting in touch with Dr. Cid or someone else who is truly equipped to handle your case and not "give up" on you. It really seems inexcusable that you are not able to hook up with someone who is qualified, whether to see them directly or to have them as a consultant. I guess I'd say keep trying, keep pushing, be aggressive, but you probably already are!

I tried Dr.Cid again this morning and couldn't get through to anyone. I think I will just start with the university hospital and work from there because I have already tried the VF in Barcelona because the one in Andalucia that I was calling for so long, has shut, and I tried the rare disease foundation and now they all just seem work out of Barcelona. I have a new group of doctors here because I fired the last lot so we will see what they say.
