Hi all

I am in the process of being diagnosed with tracheal stenosis, have a lung function test and ct scan on Tuesday (docs didn't want to do a bronchoscopy).

I have had the symptoms coming on for a few years now. I am in remission with the disease and will be off pred in 3 weeks.

Last few days has been bad. Been coughing none stop and have a sensitive throat now. Feel clogged up, like I can't breathe and its affectting my voice.
Is there anything I can do to alleviate my symptoms?
Mighti've just been my imagination but hot foods o drinks used to help but not over the last few days.

Any advice for me? And what is the treatment like for this? Plus I have saddle nose, whaoo.

I wonder if you have a cold and/or bronchitis. Have you tried any decongestants?

Hi Pete.

Had a cold a few weeks ago so I don't think so. Have had decongestants but don't wanna take too many.

What are the symptoms on bronchitis?

Bronchitis symptoms were an ongoing unproductive cough. Was treated with antibiotic and cough suppressant (tessalon perles).

I really don't think its bronchitis

Why no bronch? That makes no sense to me. Or even a laryngoscopy.

I've no idea Phil, was Dr Jayne who said that and ordered the other tests.

Sam, I'm a bit concerned this could be happening to me, too. Though it's possible it's not. But I will be mentioning my concern at my upcoming appt. and will be awaiting news of what is happening with you. I have saddle nose, too, and have always had the problem of coughing stuff up that dripped down from my sinuses. But I'm wondering if lately it's been getting a bit harder to cough stuff up... possibly due to a narrowed trachea? I've had a laryngoscopy a couple times, and all was clear, but that was before my Wegs dx. Actually know nothing about all this but what I've read on the forum... docs have not discussed it with me at all.

Good luck, and I hope it turns out not to be true!

Ask him why no scopes.

My more serious area ended up being my bronchial tubes, but it took them quite a while to figure that out. I did have some TS as well, but not serious enough to treat. The scope to the trachea is uncomfortable, but not horrendous by any means. Just left the back of my nasal passage where it enters the throat sore from friction.

If they don't find any issues in the trachea I'd imagine the bronch will be the next test.

Prob not by x-ray. Best way to know for sure is to go down and look.

As far as having an infection goes, congrats...easy fix for the most part. And, since I'm on a roll this week, isn't 'Anti Biotics' better than 'Uncle Pred'?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! Who let me in this place?! You all know I'm just having fun, my way of dealing with things!! Go get'em Sam!

They are still looking at possible TS. Infection is a minor setback

They are still looking at possible TS. Infection is a minor setback Oh, sorry to hear that. I hope it's not. I know, with me, lots of gunk gets into my windpipe and I can breathe a lot better once it's coughed up! I can see how the infection could increase the mucus and the sensation of breathing problems, excess coughing, etc. Good luck!:smile1:

The scopes aren't so bad really. I close my eyes while they're doing it now haha!

My husband at the time cringing in the corner did not help, mind! lol. We weren't prepared the first time, and were so shocked!

Ah, I'll disagree with Gwen at bit here! I have them every three months (now going to four) due to SS (subglottal stenosis -- it only reached the first two rings of my trachea). The last time was horrible -- I can laugh about it now, for sure, but even my doc is amazed how much I fight him on it. Just feels like you are choking/being choked. He scopes me all the way down to the collar bone -- you can see the light coming through my throat, but it's what we Weggies with SS/TS have to do. Freaky, as you know I also had the saddling and I am sure Dr. Jayne told you that those two conditions often run together and don't always track progression of the disease for reasons that are still unclear to researchers. I luckily only have had one repair so far, and my breathing is nothing like it was before. I had gotten so narrow that I literally couldn't clear my throat, and I was constantly coughing to try to do so. Hope that's not the case with you, but at least in my case the surgery was very easy and the recovery extremely smooth. No pain at all versus having the saddle repaired.

According to my ENT I have smaller than normal nasal passages so even with the numbing stuff the scope is painful. I've only had to have it done 2 or 3 times.

My ent specialist has suggested scoping the lower airway passages but he told me it would be an uncomfortable procedure, so I think I'll postpone it a bit, as I am a little chicken to go ahead with it.

ENT's seem to love, and have, their toys...gotta love being scoped and having it shown to you, live of course, on 3 color TVs...just in case you don't see it well on the first one! I hate it, I fight it, but my ENT is the only doc who goes down there...sheesh...and she's helped my ravaged sinuses a lot...well, at least she told me she can't do anymore and I am what I am now! LOL! Nice, a frog forever...no princesses...sighs...hehe

Yeah, my ENT has whipped out a scope a couple of times to look at my larynx, with no warning! He seems to like the element of surprise! No one has gone further down than that, though I sometimes wonder if maybe they should, which I imagine would be even more uncomfortable. I've never gotten to see anything on TV, though.
