Hi, I'm not sure how to post a new post, but I will try.

Dean has a spotted rash on his arms, chest and back. We were wondering what this could be. It really doesn't bother him to much, but it itches and is kind of bothering him a little. Could he be allergic to something or part of wegener's? We are a little concerned. I have been in the hospital with pneumonia and just got out. I will not be ready to go with Dean to the doctor until next week. He can't hear and has problems hearing everything. Do you think we should try and drive to Seattle this week or next? I'm not doing to good just being out of the hospital.

Thanks for you help,

Dean and Barbara Inabnit

Dean and Barbara, has this rash come on recently and did it start small and grow, is it the size whe it first occurred? Have any of Dean's meds changed in any way recently? Has there been any change to your home environment, I note you have been in hospital was there anyone staying to look after Dean? If there was someone staying do they have pets? Have you changed washing powder/liquid or softener? Any of these items could be the culprit, for example I have not found a softner that I can use without coming out in a rash.

I understand that Dean will have trouble understanding what his doctor says if you do not go with him, but is there any friend, neighbour or relative that could go with him instead? While I do not think it likely that the rash is related to WG it could be a reaction to meds, and whatever the cause if it is causing any discomfort it should be investigated and the sooner the better.

There are many possible reasons for this rash, Barbara. It is hard to know what kind it is from this distance. I think you need a good dermatologist (who knows about Dean's medical situation, and his meds). But I agree with Jim: Since you have been in the hospital with your own problems, you should have someone else go in with him.

Thank you Jim, Al and all. Dean said today that he thinks it is getting a little better today. On Monday we will see his doctor and my doctor, we will then talk about his rash. I'm finely feeling a little stronger too. Pneumonia takes a while to start feeling better. Dean has been very helpful to me and both of our children are helping too. God has been good to us.
Thank you for all the help and it makes me feel better that it might not be Wegeners that is causing the rash.

Thank you again,
Barbara and Dean

Fran you will have to be a little careful of expressions like that. Here in the UK there is a chocolate bar called Yorkie and I am rather partial to it, but I don't think I will take a bite of Barbara and Dean's dogs.

Oh behave Jim ! - Remember you are a taxi driver and Yorkie bars are reserved for lorry drivers !! (As per old tv advert ).
My preference is for Maltesers and before you say anything I don't mean Maltese Terriers. Just the chocolates !!!

Barbara and Dean,

Sorry to hear of the rash and the pneumonia, and others' advice so far is good. I was just wondering, since you mentioned driving to Seattle, what part of Washington do you live in? I may have known this before but forgotten. I'm in Olympia.

Barbara & Dean Oh, thanks... I was just curious.... I may be looking for a doctor at UW and already have one name from some forum members.... maybe sometime by private message I could find out who your husband goes to.

Nice looking terriers, Barbara. My brother and sister-in-law have a thing about Westies, which are similar in stature.

Anne: I had a consultation with the hot-shot nephrologist at the UW, who is excellent, but, as I recall, you do not have kidney issues, so I can't give you a good recommendation.

I see a neph as my main doc and I don't have kidney issues. And many see Specks as their main doc who do not have lung issues. And Specks is a TOP DOG for sure.

My husband goes to Dr. Anthony M. Drajcer MD. Rheumatology He has done well with Dean. His number is 206-860-2383. He is at The Polyclinic. It is a new building and is easy to find. Madison Center 904 7th Ave. 4th floor Seattle, WA 98104
Dean is in remission right now and he is going down to 5 MG of Prednisone on Sunday. He is tried, but is doing well.

Thanks Al. The one Dean and I are holding passed away in Augs 2010. She was 17 years old. We adopted both these little sister's from a shelter. They were 15 months old. They were kept in a cage together for a year. They didn't know how to play or even look at you when you talked to them. Now they are 3 and they are the most wonderful little Dogs. They play and look at us and they love everyone. They wouldn't think of bitting us. They smile real big. We named them Winni Pooh and Honey Dew.

We went to the doctor's yesterday and Dr. Krajcer told us to stop taking the Bactrim. He told Dean it could be the Bactrim that is causeing the rash and itching. Because we have cut down on the Prednisone and that could be causing it. He did give Dean a cream to use for 5 days called Desonide 0.05%.

Al Al, we talked about this before... no, I don't have kidney issues..... but I got a name from Kirk, of the rheumotologist he sees at UW, and you had heard of him and seemed to think he was good or had a good reputation or something along those lines. We can PM of you want to know the name, since Kirk gave it to me in a PM. Or look back in your PM inbox, if you still have it.

Like you, I do like the UW. I have had the best help there. I do get good help at The Pollyclinc too.

Barbara, and Dean Oh, it's just that good Wegs doctors are said to be so rare, and practically non-existent around here, that I thought I'd have the best chance at UW, from what I'd heard. But it is entirely possible that people competent to treat us are at other clinics in Seattle, too. That is if it is impossible for us to go to the real Wegs or vasculitis specialty centers in the US. I'm sure a competent doc in Seattle would be willing to consult with the super-specialists if necessary or even as a matter of routine. I hadn't heard of Polyclinic and will look it up online.
