Nice pics, Rini! Sorry I don't have one of me from the holidays and very few, period. Will have to work on that. I'd sort of like to know who some of those people are, though I have one or two guesses.

To annotate my contribution, in order from top: My family at the holiday lefse and cookie party, aka "flour everywhere"; daughter Amy, the Lefse Queen; Wife Eileen with the pepperkaker system; and the lefse as a finished product (but not, yet, finished off).

Love to, Phil--along with some black-eyed peas. Let me know if the shipment makes it past customs....

Al Oh, sheesh, I should have figured out that those were all the same family in that second group of four pictures. Very nice to see them, Al!

I doubt it would make it past customs....lol. Yah, with all those cutbacks in government spending, those folks must be getting pretty hungry! Anyway, since we make it only once a year, don't sit down at the table just yet....

I travelled with my family to the USA in 2008 and at the airport customs we had to declare any food (as per standard).
Anyway I declared that I had a jar of vegemite, a little jar of coffee, teabags and some biscuits. The Customs dude asked if my biscuits were TimTams, I said "NO".
He said, "that's a shame, we haven't had out morning tea yet and would have loved to have confiscated them from you".

If this is the way they work then I doubt they are getting hungry .....LOL

Good story, Michelle! Interesting they let the vegemite pass. In the US, we typically would view that stuff more or less as a dangerous weapon--or maybe a strange performance art....

What is vegemite?

Al

What is vegemite?

It is an utterly vile paste that, for some unfathomable reason, people in Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, and perhaps a few other places, spread on crackers and such. It is said to be vegetable matter, but don't think that means yummy (cf. pickles, for example). Not for an instant think yummy. It you see a product called Vegemite, Promite, or Marmite, run--don't walk--to a different aisle. Who knows? Maybe you'll find some lefse there. (Now, Michelle, don't get any ideas about defiling lefse with the V product...!)

Sorry, I had tears of laughter reading this. It's kind of how at lot of Australians view it too. My kids hate the stuff. :thumbdn:
I love it. It is a great daily source of vitamin B and folate.
It's made from yeast, malt and probably too much salt. It's kind of made from beer products.

I did have a Phil type question "what is lefse?" but I googled it and yes, vegemite would spread very nicely on lefse :lol:
