For the last week my knees are unbelievably sore by early evening. The pain is a lot worse than other joint pain and is just like it was 10 years ago-prediagnosis. My question is, what is it that causes sore joints especially knees.:glare:

Gotta rule out Wegs first.

Lyme's disease is also famous for causing knee pain. Usually the knees get red, hot and swollen.

I'm quite sure wg is causing the pain. What I was wondering was why or how does wg cause knee or joint pain.

I always linked the pain with increased inflammation, but honestly I seem to get random bouts of pain in knees especially on and off. I don't think I've been fully controlled yet though either.

Whatever causes it, it's absolutely awful!

Do you find it hard to pull your legs up once you're lying down? It sounds very wg like to me, too. What are you taking for the pain?

No one really knows what causes the pain. The hypothesis is that it's due to generalized inflammation. Joint pain was my first symptom and it was so severe I could barely move.

I remember it being so bad I couldn't move too - really scary isn't it? What was your next symptom after that?

Thanks - they are 2, 5 and 6 years old now! I don't know where the time goes. X

I am "ruling in wegeners". This knee pain is different then any other joint pain I have. It does hurt to pull them up when laying down and it hurts for even a sheet to rest on them. For the pain...I have tylenol or advil or i do have an expired prescription for tylenol 3's somebody gave me. None of these help with the knee pain at all. I am able to work through the day without much of a problem but towards the end of the day and when I go home it is unbarable. Reminds me of the time when I was sick but undiagnosed. I prefered it when I forgot how much that hurts.

See if your doc can prescribed "Voltaren Gel"...i think that how its spelled. Anyway it helps alleviate some joint pain. Be careful on taking Advil or any NSAID pain medication.

The knee pain feels different than the joints in my hands...i find it hard to explain. I will ask the next time I am at the doctors but I am a reluctant patient to say the least.

Voltaren is acetominophen. It's okay to use it but you have to be very careful to use the amount specified and not to take Tylenol internally as well. Tylenol is very toxic to the liver. It's surprisingly easy to overdose on it and cause liver damage.

Leigh, why are you waiting to see your doctor? :confused1:

My blood work is monitored-dont laugh at that chris...they sent a note with my blood this time! I have my doctor and his nurse on speed dial and i have the lung specialist's card if I dont get a hold of the wg specialist. I saw my wg specialist sept 8th. I felt not as much pain then as I do now. I told myself it was the weather last week but that is getting tired. I think I am waiting for something more than knee pain before I get a hold of him. stubborn i guess. Stupid maybe more accurate

That is why I was treated for it two or three times before i finally got diagnosed with Wegs a couple years later. I think maybe those insects bites caused the Wegs, yep I am going to blame those little buggers and find me a lawyer to sue them.:biggrin1:

Unless you are tapering prednisone, the joint pain is not a good sign. Sometimes during a taper you might have some transient joint pain for a few days but if it doesn't go away soon then you might need more pred and/or other treatment for Wegs.

Well, as you already know... if it's Wegs and you wait for more signs, you'll get them for sure.

I am just so afraid of the drugs, and somtimes over the last few years I have had mild flares that have gone away. I feel as though my body has been fighting itself for the last year but it is losing its battle lately. I am so confused. I thought it would be easier second time around.

Drz, I am currently not on any mediction.

I don't know how it is for you, but if the joint pain gets to my knees it usually indicates highly active Wegs.

I am the other way, seems like my knees are the first place I get pain. Like DRZ said, I get a few days of knee pain every time I taper. Weird how variable the symptoms can be for us :)

I have had SOME knee-pain on and off, but lately it doesn't bother me anymore.
I can understand you hesitating to take action and maybe being medicated again...
Hope your pain will soon be gone, delorisdoe!

I have been trying to stay at 5mg of pred but my knee, ankle, fingers and toes hurt so bad, especially at night when I try to turn over or move. Oh and in the daytime when I try to walk without my scooter.

I am finally down to 3 1/2 mg of prednisone, but I had mini flare in the past sinuses and had to bump it up to 20 and start the taper all over again. take your time Light warrior and if this joint pain continues, need to call the doc.

I haven't been on the forum for some time and I would say it was fate that brought me here today.
I've been suffering too lately from knee pain but just contributed to the fact of this extra weight I carry around. Mine too bothers me the most at night and I have to take an extra hydrocodone to get through the night. Another weird spot is the top of my right foot and my lower back. I've been neglecting taking care of me as I should and need to be more careful I know. My 86 yr old mom has had to recently be placed in a personal care home and I have had to take care of her. It has been really tough especially because her mind is still sharp but her body is weak and she suffered a stroke in July. I want to keep her with me at my home but I don't have anyone to help me and I know I couldn't do it myself. The other day I saw a new saying:
Be kinder than necessary for everyone is fighting some kind of battle.
I wish all my weggie friends the best and better health for all of us.
