I got this short video in my email today. (It's from a nutritional supplement company I use) It gives an excellent explanation of the problems caused by acid blockers and describes how they were originally licensed to be used.
If you're on high dose pred you absolutely must take acid blockers to protect your stomach. Once you get to lower doses you probably won't need them anymore and should get off them as soon as possible. Medical doctors are finally conceding that patients shouldn't stay on acid blockers for long because of the mounting evidence that long-term use is associated with bone problems. Yet they still prescribe and recommend OTC acid blockers at alarming rates.
